Millet seeds - for mustached parakeets - always in the cage or just as a treat?

Just got 3 mustched parakeets that are a 5-7 weeks old.
Was wondering if I should keep the millet seeds as treats or leave it in the cage as part of their diet.
If it should stay in the cage... What's a good treat?
Don't forget they are still young and can't even crack a sunflower seed...
Thanks in advance for your suggestions...

In the wild, birds do raid Millet fields, but my birds would eat their millet first & fill up on it before eating anything else, so while they all get a piece about 1 inch long every other day, others may feed theirs everyday or just leave it in their cage.....

Pepsi and sprite, both are American male budgies
I would for know give it to them as part of their diet, but as they start getting older and using more solid food I would switch it to a treat .

Millet works well when they are young and just learning to shell seeds. Also be sure you are introducing them to plenty of fresh foods. As they grow and are better able to eat other seeds and nuts you should cut back on the millet.
