Moving Day

Moving Day, and baby Ruby did not appreciate being caged all day, and wasn't going to wait one second longer to be picked up. The minute the door opened...

And another update. She's in the dismantling everything in sight phase of young macaw-hood.

Yesterday, when I got home, I discovered she had taken the "macaw proof" latches off of all four of her treat cup door, as well as the latch off her nest box door. (All of which are spring loaded latches, which means all five doors had to be disassembled to get them back on. They were stuck shut!) She also took apart her tree branch and her 4 way rope perch (again) and taken apart four of her quick links, and dropped her toys to the floor of her cage...

YEAH. MACAW PROOF, ISN'T!!! Especially with this one...

And if things go their usual course, she will have done it again by the time I get home tonight... She is a good bird, but young macaws are A LOT of work!!!

Our DYH Amazon was a mechanic or mechanical engineer in his prior life as there has been nothing that has resisted his ability to take it apart! The only thing he doesn't deal with is the foraging toys! His answer is; find the highest place and fling it down, commonly the stairway.

Yours too huh? Shocking that they aren't the dominant species instead of us considering they've been evolving twice as long as our kind have been! Does Julio also put things back together? "Re-assembling" (some) things after disassembling them has become a new trend for Kiwi over the past year or so.

Arika, our B&G will be coming home with us next month. We may have to re-think our version of th "Macaw Proof" setup.

Interesting, at present Julio busy himself gathering pieces and parts together in groupings. Haven't seem an attempt to assemble yet. But some of the parts have been missing for sometime, so we need to search for his newest stash site -or- where he is assembling at his newest stash site. He can be such a Sneaking Pete!

I know our local bird only pet shop has 2, not for sale, and every thing in their cage is welded together. You might need to get handy with a MIG torch, Mark. Glad your move went well, we missed you here.

Actually, she's tiny compared to Maggie...

Maggie was about 1/3 larger. She was one of the Big 'uns.

As predicted, when I came home last night - Ruby had figured out her "macaw proof" door latches, and had dismantled all the other door latches, and several of her toys and perches, and a few of Sally's toys as well...

Then this morning, for good measure, she dismantled a few of her treat cup door latches as well.

It's a phase. All the young macs I've ever had did this. Across the board. Some were worse than others, and right about this age too!

We were evicted. My last landlord sold the house out from under us, and gave us 30 days notice. We found a place, and moved in the space of about a week... Given what's going on in other parts of Texas right now, that's not really a big deal at all. Just annoying... Lots of people just lost everything.

Anyone heard from our Houston people?! Hope everyone is okay.

My sister is doing Hurricane relief right now.

They have made it to this point with little more than a grumpy Parrot or three, all things considered. Not heard from any others as of yet!

Parrot training is a two way street.

Sometimes you train them. Sometimes they train you.

After a week of having her cage dismantled, reassembled, only to be dismantled again. I gave up, and simply removed all the latches from her cage door. I may put them back on again someday... if she stops this stuff. But, I lose this battle.

Maggie did the same thing to me. Tore all the latches off, then took her cage door off for good measure.

I give up on this issue. (For now.)
