Pepe (Quaker parrot)
Hello everyone, I have a 12 year old quaker called Pepe, I love him a lot, so I feel incredibly scared because he's been acting strange.

Ever since a few weeks ago he will stop eating sometimes, refuse food or water and regurgitate what he does eat.

Yesterday he was really 'out of it' I don't know how to explain it, he would look at us and it was like he didn't recognize us, he had these moments where he would look really out of it and slowly back away, I've read that might be a stroke/seizure but I don't know.

He was sold to us by some guy on the street and he had paint on his beak, his eye got infected and he's never been able to use that eye all too well because of that, a few weeks ago his eye had some discharge (I think that's what it's called) so we treated him like we did back then.

Today he's doing better than yesterday and seems calmer but I'm concerned, some advice would be really appreciated, thanks.

Please take him to an avian vet. None of us are veterinarians.

Welcome to the forums, @Illoveyoudark and Pepe! I'm so sorry for what you're going through, and that there aren't terribly many avian vets in your country. There seems to be a worldwide shortage of vets of any kind lately, much less avian specialists! We do have a list of avian vets worldwide which I'll link for you here - there are a few in Mexico though I don't know if any are close to you or if they still operate, but perhaps you may find someone who could be of assistance to you? Some may even offer phone or video consults if they are not actually in your area.

I hope this is of some help to you and I wish your sweet Pepe all the very best!

He needs to see a Avian Vet, dog and cat vets are not qualified. YOu might try reaching out to zoos and possibly commercial vets for other avian (ducks chickens goeese) they will be better then no vet and better then a dog/cat vet.

Thanks a lot for the list, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any vets on the list that are remotely closed to where I live, I will try to find one but he isn't getting better as I thought, he's still not eating, though he seems to be happier when we take him to a different room than the one he's normally at and seems to eat and look calmer when not there, so we think it may be something in the room scaring him or something, maybe he's got anxiety or something like that, still thanks for the advice.

I wish I had more time to reply, buttttttttttttttttt pleaseplease find a way to get an avian vet's help! Good luck!
Some references.

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.

Could there be something toxic in the room? Birds are extremely sensitive. New paint, air fresheners, scented candles, cleaners, mold; anything like that could make your bird sick.

My Macaw of 30 years Scooter passed away unexpectedly this year. We miss her terribly. I would love to re-home an African Grey or Macaw. We have Lots of love and fun to offer.

Awe! I am so sorry to hear about your Parrot. I lost my Macaw to a massive heart attack in July. She was 30 years old a died suddenly. Please try to get your parrot to an Avian Vet so they can check him out. I miss my Scooter so much and we have been devastated. God bless you and your Parrot.
