Need Advice! Worried About Boomer

any update on Boomer??

Thinking of you.

We rushed Merlin to the vets, around a year ago, for similar things, including the 'clear vomit'. He was prescribed some antibiotics (I think I still have it...) and he was fine later. Hope Boomer recovers quickly. xxx

Hi everyone,

I'm so sorry I could not update sooner. Boomer is doing a lot better today. He is almost back to his hyper-active, feisty self. He's appetite is back in full force, so that's good. I noticed he clings to me very close, even more than usual. He napped clinging to my neck almost all today. I let him sleep so he could get his all of his strength back. I'm taking the day off tomorrow since I haven't called in for a long while. I want to make sure he is all well.

Giving him the oral meds has become challenging because now that he's starting to bite harder. So I used the toweling technique (thanks for the tip WBAP). I think he resented that a little because he purposely flew to my shoulder and pooped on me twice today (he never does this anymore).

Mayden, did you find out why Merlin vomited the clear liquid? It's very similar to Boomer's symptom but I still don't know what might have caused it. I've been racking my brains and came up with:

1. Questionable eggs I bought. I gave him a bit of boiled egg the night before he puked. He's had eggs before but maybe this batch was not good. I ate one today just to see, and I actually do feel dizzy and sick. I don't know if it's a mind trick, but I'm throwing those eggs out.

2. I was sick with a cough and cold all week and Boomer likes to sneak in kisses sometimes. I might have passed him on some bacteria

3. He nibbled on mineral deposits around the kitchen faucet. He's done that before though.

So far, that's all I have. I'll be getting the results tomorrow, and anxious what the blood and stool test results show. I'll share what I find then. Thank you again for checking in on Boomer. Give an extra scratch to your birds from me and Booms.

I'm so glad to hear that he's doing better. :)

Giving meds to a parrot is challenging, to say the least.

I haven't been on here all weekend and I was saddened to see this post and as quickly as I could read, tried to update myself on the news. I am so happy that he is doing so much better. Praying for a full and complete recovery.

Oh good! I'm so glad he's doing better! I hope he fully totally recovers!

Yeah I agree better safe than sorry take him to the vet, but I notice with my bird he sometimes eats what's presented to him as I have a feeding station which is away from his cage.(I just fid it easier to keep a spotless living environment for him is why).
and sometime he is snubbing everything that I present to him....
But to be absolutely safe get him to the vet,
Good luck hope its nothing serious

What a relief :) I was really worried when you were describing how his grip was weak. I hope the tests the vet ran reveal the cause so you at least know what brought it on.

Good to hear that Boomer is doing better today. Hopefully the results will have some definite answers for you. Passing on best wishes to you both.

I'm glad he's feeling better now, if he can start biting and doing bad things towards you. You know he's feeling better...lol.... ;)

I kept checking back to see if you had left an update and I see now that you have and it's with terrific news :) so pretty much it looks like Boomer is out of the danger zone and heading into full recovery - which is of course the best outcome.

you are such a wonderful Parront!...I honestly think you caught that in the *nick* of time.
Safari was vomiting clear liquid before he died, mind you, he was *too far gone*.

I am so relieved for you and Boomer that he has improved.I love the "cuddling" of the neck, that is adorable!

Just dug through the forum and found it :

http://www.parrotforums.com/general...et-after-eventful-day-panic-about-merlin.html

Suspected minor crop irritation, treated with antibiotics just in case and fed plain noodles which are easy for digestion. Merlin stopped throwing up fairly soon after we got back, so presumed crop irritation really.

Was truely awful going through that panic and not having a vet for him. He was being really odd, sleepy, clingy, still whistling and stuff, but throwing up clear all the time too (thought it was just water?), was disgusting and scary.

Thinking of you, hows he doing today?

So happy to read your last post and that Boomer is doing better! Sounds like he is on the mend:) Looking forward to hearing what your vet determines was wrong form the tests.

Thank you so much for all the support. You are all so awesome and caring! Crimson, you are so kind for saying that especially now that I am beating myself up over Boomer's sickness. Everything I know I mostly learned from the great parronts on this forum.

My mission right now is find out what caused him to vomit large amounts of that clear, slimy liquid. Mayden's post about what happened to Merlin goes in line with the online research I did last night. The problem is, there are so many things that cause crop infection! Not sure how I could pinpoint it. I am just hoping that the vet results later will shed some light. I won't find out till later in the afternoon. I will be sure to share it here in case it can be helpful to someone else in the future.

Your hyper vigilance, quick actions and love is what helped save Boomer. So happy to hear that he's feeling better now.
