Need Advice! Worried About Boomer

Omg this is so shocking. I hope & pray he shakes this off soon. Please keep us posted. Keep him warm, maybe in his backpack so you can keep a close eye. Hopefully you don't have to work weekends. I'm so sorry this is happening! :(

Sending the best wishes from Casper and I. Hope all is well soon.

Glad you've been to the vet. Sorry it always takes so long for results!
Good luck for the weekend. Keep him close, he can feel your love and it will help him.

I'll keep him in my prayers....try and keep him warm, it will help him conserve heat.
gee, this came on rather suddenly, lets hope he gets a good night sleep and he will have improved by tomorrow.

Boom, I'm keeping both you and Boomer in my thoughts and hoping for the best. You know you've done the right thing in getting him to the vet. Now it's a bit of a waiting game. Crimson mentioned how fast this seemed to have happened, but from what I have read on this forum that seems to be always the way these illness appear - out of the blue. We're all in your corner and wishing you the best.

I am praying the he wakes up tomorrow and is much better. It is so scary how quickly they can get sick:(

Oh my gosh!!! I hope that he is going to be ok. Your sweet baby will be in my prayers. Nothing is worse than having our fids not feel good.

Hope everything goes well at the vet <3 Better safe than sorry.

You are all so kind for sending Boomer good vibes and well wishes. With so many people rooting for him, I just know he will get better. Its too early to make conclusions but there are some improvements that give me hope. He is not vomiting anymore. He is a lot more active and is actually flying around the place. He got some of his appetite back. His eyes are not half closed.

However, he still feels light and his grip on my finger is not as strong it seems. His poops are also different. They look milky. Instead of the healthy clear liquid / urate / green tubes ratio. I am hoping for the best and anxious to uncover him tomorrow.

Also per vet instructions, I gave him his 2 oral meds via syringe for the very first time. Wow, was that challenging. I felt so bad but it had to be done. I'm watching youtube vids now. I tried it with a towel but I had a worse handle on him so I went with plain hands. People say I need to towel them, is that true?

Well that's a bit good news so happy to hear it. About his droppings, sometimes antibiotics themselves can have that effect, and if that part doesn't change ask your vet about it - it might be very normal for being on his medication. I'm sure giving those meds is a challenge. I think generally people use towels to help protect themselves from being bitten - so maybe it's not necessary if he's not trying to bite you when you're administering his antibiotic.

I've never had to give my birds any oral med so I'm grateful for that but I sure have given them to dogs over the years. I had one dog that all I had to do was hand him a pill and he's swallow it right down - didn't matter what it was - boy was that nice, but I had another, a black pug named Bacchus, who could detect a teeny tiny pill in the center of a prime rib steak - I can't say how many times I thought I got it down him only a day later to find the pill in the middle of his bed. That dog could suck the peanut butter right off a grain of sand and spit out the sand lol.

I'm VERY glad you gave us an update - I know I'm not the only one watching.

With ones that bite I use a towel otherwise I use bare hands. ;)

Thanks, Gary and Mikey. I will continue to use bare hands as he doesn't try to bite me too hard.

Man, he is plastered up against the side of my neck tonight. He always sleeps on the cup between my neck and shoulder but never like this. It's like he's taped himself against my neck as if saying, "Don't leave me alone tonight" My poor Booms :(

I have to let him sleep in his cage though or we both won't get any sleep.

BoomBoom, I don't have any advice to give but you and Boomer are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the little guy is back to his chipper self in no time!

when birds are not feeling well they don't have a lot of strength, just like we don't when we are ill.

he had plenty of meds yesterday, I guess it can affect them, but honestly I've never seen it in my birds, but again, every bird and situation is different

as for towelling him, just go with what works best for you, medicating is never easy, unless your the luckies person in the world;)

the tests will hopefully identify the problem, and you will know more tomorrow.
are you keeping him warm?

I was posting this, after you typed your reply....he sounds adorable wanting to snuggle with you, your neck is really warm, and want to be near mum.

BB, I know it's early where u r. I was hoping to see an update about Boomer. I hope you both had a good night and Boomer is even more perky and feeing better today.

As for administering meds and toweling - As u know i've had to give Pritti series of inejectins and always towel him because I feel like I have a better grip on him that bare handed. So I think either way is ok as long as it's done safely for all parties. If u need to try toweling Boomer again, you can try having him on your finger engaged in communication with you. With the other hand, come from directly behind very quickly and towel him. I'm able to get a good safe grip that way.

Oh im so sorry this is happening! I really hope he gets better!
