I will be getting a baby yellowsided green cheek at the end of the month. I am beyond excited and cannot wait to get him! I do have a question about what to expect the first nights? Will he sleep or will he cry because he’s lonely? I have read the sticky posts about care and safety. I have been researching for a long time now, but any info is appreciated! I have 2 parakeets that I’ve had for a couple of years also.

There's no guarantee on how a new bird will act in a home. They may be frightened and need time to settle in or they could be nonchalant and ready to rock and roll! The best thing to do would be to ensure the bird is weaned for at least 2 weeks prior to taking the bird home and get some of whatever food the bird was weaned onto in case you want to transition them to a different diet or keep them on what they are already eating.

Thank you! He will be almost 10 weeks?? I have been researching like crazy for months but now that he’s almost here, I feel like I know nothing! I know what veggies and fruits he can have, but is it ok to offer fresh food everyday. I was told he was given formula and until he didn’t want it anymore (just a couple days ago he stopped wanting it), he is eating pellets, fruits and veggies, Cheerios, and seed. Is seed a no no? Should it be a small daily offering or Should it be used mostly for treats? I have seen so many different things. Thank you for your help!

Seeds are not necessary in a green cheek conure's diet, although you can provide them in the form of treats, nuts or a very small part of the diet. Diet in itself is quite controversial so it's best to do your research to determine what you believe is best and to seek advice from nutritionists and avian vets. (many may say no seeds at all)

Yes to fresh foods daily!

Nuts can also be a healthy additional to their diet.

The longer he is weaned for, the less chance he'll regress and want to be handfed again.

Congrats! We have five conures (one turquoise green cheek, one pineapple green cheek, one yellow sided green cheek, two black capped) and each of them was very different. Some were very shy at first and others were ready to rock and roll. Just have patience and things will be fine. Excited for you. Our yellow side is our newest too.
