New sun conure! Help??
Hello,
I need some help with my new sun conure. Back story: he was found by some friends of ours, and we went to great lengths to reunite him with his owners. After calling every shelter, posting flyers, looking of Craigslist and calling every avian vet in the area, we gave up hope (they ended up finding his cage at the dumpster along with another cage, so we assume he was released).
In any event we've had him about 3 weeks and things are going ok. The first few days, he was very eager to get out and learn (he didn't even know step up when we got him). In the next few days, he was being a little more lovey and less into the learning and in the last few days he's been refusing to step up (off the cage, off a shoulder, off his perch - anything), has been puffing up and screaming at us a lot, and today displayed some frisky behavior (open mouth tapping on my hand when I tried to get him to step up). My friends with birds say to put him back in the cage and let him cool off then try again, but he's been so moody for the last 4-5 days, I'm wondering if this behavior is permanent - I hope not!
Any advice would be great!
Other notes: we aren't sure how old he is, but he's definitely full grown. We are also unsure if he is a boy or a girl.
Thanks y'all!
