Nippy

Hi i am looking for some advice.
I have recently brought a baby ringneck and have had him for 3 weeks and he is roughly 13 weeks old.
He is beautiful and very smart within days he was stepping up on a perch and coming to land on our heads or hands when called.
He really seems to enjoy our company and when out comes to us all the time.
The problem is he pecks us hard all of the time and draws blood a lot of the time.
I know he is probably exploring but the nipping is out of control.
Can I have some advice please

Welcome to the forum! My Linny Boy (Indian ring neck) can get too rough with the nipping. I trained him that when he gets to rough I tell him "too rough" and put him in time out for a minute or so. For him time out is his cage. You can also try distracting your new baby with something else.

Thank you for the advice, we have started trying the time out today after my partner got both his ears pierced.
I did buy him some foot toys but they don't hold his attention for long.
Tonight he was like an exocet missile on a mission lol

You might want to try shunning your parrot for being nippy. If you put him back in his cage, you might be training him to bite you when he wants to go back to his cage.

Our little parrots are a lot like toddlers, and what works for one may not work for another. My 12 yr old LinnyBoy could care less about foot toys. He loves hanging toys that make noise, and his suspension ladder. Parrots all of them can get nippy and re direction and telling them NO to rough is how all 5 of mine have been raised. In the meantime what is your little guys name and we love to see pictures.

Thank you for the reply, his cage door is open all of the time he is out and he goes in and out when he wants too

He is a beauty! I think parrots are extremly inteligent, and it doesn't surprise me that he knows his name. I just mentioned last week to my Avian Vet, that the 5 parrots I have, are better trained, and do what I want or need, better than any cat or dog I have ever had. lol I am extremly fortunate that I found this vet, she comes to the house for the parrots and the cats. This conversation came up when we were finished with the parrots, I asked her did she want to see the boys (cats) who were put up so we could do the parrots. SO.....I open their door and call "come on boys" and 1 out of 3 came right to us, the other 2 lolly gagged around. lol

Thank you he definitely is a beauty and such a character that you can't help but like him.
Just wish he would stop trying to pierce various parts of our bodies lol.
I have 2 cats and I know exactly what you mean, mine only seem to take notice if it's food time
