No apple

Yes thank you so much for helping me. You have been an angel...

No big deal, anyone else looking a baby zon? If your going to be feeding one, two is not an issue.

I have been contemplating getting a DYH and was wondering if this breeder only sells through the Internet? I attend bird fairs and do not know the reputation of the vendors. The vendors come all over from the South so I am curious who it is that should be avoided. I bought a HQ cage from a vendor at a fair and got burned. I would hate to get burned again by a so called bird breeder. Lately at the fairs the birds for sale have been breeders not pet quality. The birds are labeled as such so what happened to the pet bird market lately? Of course one should do homework on any breeder of any animal because there are many dishonest people in the world.

I have been looking at a bird rescue and at this point I noticed a few things that do not feel right. I may be overly suspicious, but until I get good references from any source on what I am looking for, I keep my guard up.

Shyness, the best way to get what you are looking for is to get referrals so you are in good hands here. Hang in there.

Heard from Howard, he only has 4 DYHs and they're all sold. Possible he could have more, but it's late in the season. I'll check a few other folks and see what's around that i can pick up and handraise.

just noticed your "supporting member"..... is congratulations in order??

Nothing special, just had to pay to get more storage for PMs.

AWWWWWWWW.....I'm so sorry!!! ((((HUGS)))) Hope you find a way to get your deposit back and to find YOUR "Apple".

That's the spirit! Keep your chin up! This will all work out in the end. You'll see. ;)

How much did she want down by the way?

Hey Shy, just an update. Most large breeders are out of dyhs. Waiting to hear back from a lady on the east coast of fla. Found some 6wk old babys a couple of hours north of me but he wants 1300 each. I might be able to get a little cheaper if i take one and handfeed it out. But DYHs are selling good and there's few available. He seems sure of moving them all for good money up north so i doubt i can talk him down much. Did you burn your bridge with the lady in Ala ? I check on the map and she's about 6 hrs north of where i'm at now. Don't really want to visit her but will if you think it's necessary. I know of a breeder in Cal ,want me to see if he has/knows of any? What part of cali are you?

PS i did call a lady i sold a pair of breeder DYHs to a couple of years ago ,out in Az. She had 3 babies this spring and felt like they might be starting another clutch, have to wait and see on those , but i wouldn't get my hopes up. Those are some nice parent birds though.

PSS i did find a 7 wk old in SC if your interested. Lady seems nice enough, i talked with her for awhile and she seems to be on the up and up. She also has a Pan (hard to find, better than DYH IMO)

I am so grateful to you henpecked.. I have not burned my bridges with the breeder.. I am really at a lost of what to do... I feel sorry for the baby she has if it really is one from the pics she sent me but I don't want to waste anymore money with her... I am ona couple of waiting lists for dyh... if it is next year before I get one then oh well... I am mentally drained from this whole ordeal.... I am going to look a panamola right now I don't know much about them.. tell me why do you like them more... I think my love for the dyh comes from their pretty color and I just love their tan beaks

Up to you, the SC bird is 1000 and the 3 in Fla are 1350 .Both are reputable breeders with a long history and good reviews. Reseach the Panama amazons , subspecies of Yellow Fronts , just like DYH Pans have the same bone colored beak ,feet and cere as DYH but smaller. Baby Pans and DYHs look almost identical. IMO better temperment and just as good of a talker. Also in my opinion the hen panama is the #1 companion parrot, Period. I have many and get more for them than i do DYH. They are much harder to find and will probably be extinct as far as the pet trade is concerned in the near future. (i wish i could find more true Pans to expand my breeder gene pool)

If you want to wait til next spring, finding a baby is not a problem. If not one mine then one from my friend who has tons of amazons. What ever you want to do is fine, just let me know so i can tell the breeders i've already contacted.

I've been following this thread for a while and couldn't help but notice you mentioning Panama amazons. The breeder I will be receiving my severe macaw from currently has two Panama babies listed as available on his website... for $1200. He's based in Chicago and I'm not certain if he ships. Here is his website for anyone interested. Unfortunately, the DYH has been sold it appears...

I'd be very careful about buying Pans you haven't seen and not knowing the differnce. I'm not doubting your breeder but most of the pans being sold are really Yellow Crowns or hybrids ( even the breeders don't recognize the difference) Just because they are so similar in color but the true Pans are much rarer and more in demand than YCA,hence the higher price if you list your YCA babies as Panamas.

I completely understand and agree. When looking for a species that might be easily mistaken or purposely sold under a different name, I'd go local. Regardless, I am certain that you will find your baby at one point. It's going to happen! Good luck.

For what it's worth, that appears to be a broker not a breeder. Not that he can't get what he's offering, but then again he's selling what his supplier says they are. Notice he has no YCA listed, even though it is a much more common bird.
