Odd conure behavior?

They do, Al(uminum)!
I very much admire Mr Peart, by the way, and his (former) posse, Rush.
Well met. :)

Okay, another weird thing... since he was a baby, he has made a blowing sound, like blowing out candles... innate or learned? I dunno.
Any of ya'll's conures (or others) do this?

I think its rather easy to tell whether or not your bird is being 'stimulated' when you pet them. Obviously, if you see it is encouraging the behavior then you want to stop- but I don't think petting, in general, is a bad thing. It depends on the time of year too.

I did notice when Skittles had a cuddle hut, he was more aggressive with me than he is now. He would regurgitate in his hut regularly. Now, he cuddles in my shirt to get his 'cuddle fix' and he doesn't get aggressive with me either.

His cuddle hut was actually stimulating him more than cuddling in my shirt. There really is no 'set rule' on this. Its much more of a gray area than that.

Great observation and I have seen similar behavior from different birds I've owned over the years. Just the presence of something resembling a potential nesting area flips a switch... and like GG says..time of year is a huge influence as well. Mr Cookie goes thru his puking thing usually 3 times a day, but its his paternal instinct, not a mating thing. He has "adopted" Booger as his "baby bird"... not a mate, and "feeds" him regularly. His drive to do this is strong too.. cuz he gets REALLY insistent to come out first thing AM and feed Booger right after he gets his breakfast. Booger does not mind a bit... and accepts ..in fact begs ..just like a baby conure would. Makes for an interesting dynamic going on in my home.

Bingo...
Booger has an affectionate greeting he does... sounds like he is hissing "kisssssshhh kissssssshhhh kisssshhh".. I get that often when I get him out of his cage pror to and during our exchanging "sugar". He only does this with my wife and I... I have never heardd him do that when he is interacting with Cookie.. oddly enough.

And "fabric fetish" indeed!!!!!!.. Chewing and nibbling yes.. but what is really wild is if he gets on an unmade bed. He dives under the covers and tunnels like a gopher all over the bed making lil squeals of delight.. popping his head out playing "pee pie".. then stickin his tail out the opening for you to pull it... to which you get another squeal of delight and he tunnels to another spot to do the same thing. Wifey gets similar playtime when she wears her "fluffy" robe when sitting on the couch.... he runs up and down the arms, down inside around her waist just going slap goofy...and don't EVEN think about trying to fold laundry if hes anywhere nearby. What a hoot!

@notdumasilook Funny, I call Skittles "you little booger" ALL the time. I also call him "you little sh*t" and I say "quit being a booger" as well.

Right now, he is mimicking a laundry inspector. Something he does regularly when the laundry is hanging. I don't like it when he does that cause I don't want him regurgitating on my clean clothes! The laundry hangs in the hallway and I can't see him from the living room- so I clap my hands twice and say "get over here" and he comes back. Despite being a royal pain in the butt, he is also rather compliant. Its a 'clever' blend of behaviors. It's the only way he can get away with being him. lol.

@galeriagila Skittles makes kissy noises a lot, its adorable- but I didn't teach him it. He learned it from the pet store. I really lucked out with him. He was pampered by one of the clerks there. She used to take him out regularly and even potty trained him. At least that's what I call it- he only poops in certain places and he will not poop on me. Its rather convenient!

He also makes 'froggy noises' or 'duck quacks' however you view it- but apparently those are quite common mimicks among sunnies. I think its cause sunnies are from the rainforest and I'd imagine there are a lot of frogs in the jungle. Just like cockatiels do a lot of 'hissing noises', cockatiels are desert birds (Australia) and there are lots of snakes in the desert. It's just a theory, could be total bull. lol.

I like it when Skittles makes his little 'purring' noise when he is rubbing the side of his face on my chest or on a shirt or towel. He also makes 'sqeaking' noises (like when you wash the windows), that he picked up from me cleaning.

At least he doesn't make a farting noise. That would be embarrassing!

Y'all's parrots are so sweet and nice! Thanks for the stories. I love them. Such darlings.
Meanwhile, here on Planet Rickeybird, we are just now finishing the Quagmire Trimester (July-September) and entering into the Zoolander Remission (October-June). Whewwwww!

Maybe fewer "odd" behaviors for a while...
