Willow was doing her usual screaming episode when she wants something.
I walked over to her cage and asked her"what do you want?"

she was standing on her water dish and it needed 'fresh' water,...gosh Willow, it only had a few bits of pellets in there.....

I cleaned her dish out and added fresh water.
I returned to her cage and asked her to 'step up' on her perch so I could put her water dish in the holder.

she stood there defiantly not moving. I repeated my request 3 times, she never moved.

I placed the water dish on the buffet table and walked away, while I returned to wash the bird dishes.

She pondered to what point I was trying make, she then proceeded to whistle politely for me to return.

I came back spoke to her softly, holding the water dish, asking her to step up.

she then bowed her head up against the bars in order for me to scratch her head!....that was a first for her(and me):D

since I have had her she has never ever done that.

I stood there stroking her head slowly thru the bars, and she never moved.
I stopped and told her she was a good girl and gave her a treat...meanwhile my heart was just brimming with happiness.

she never did step up:rolleyes:, so I placed her water on the other side of the cage, while she happily munched away on her treat.

Yesterday when I was speaking to her she was starting to bob her head in the up & down motion like she was attempting to regurgitate. she had never done that before either.

lately in the past weeks she has starting screaming when I disappear or go out.
and she is LOUD, a bit of separation anxiety perhaps??

I guess this means she is starting to like me:54:

Sounds like you cracked another "Hard Case"!! Good job!

anybody have any favourite clicker training videos from you tube?

I think Willow is bonding with you. How can she not when you are such a wonderful person. Parrots know when a person is a good person.

I don't know any good youtube vids of clicker training. I learned that I was naturally using that training method with my voice instead of clicking. You might be doing the same thing and not realizing it. She is responding to you so well. Keep up the good work and eventually you will be able to handle her a lot more. I might of forgot the story but was wondering why she was given up. Willow sounds like a wonderful companion.

My cousin could not take care of her any longer. Willow was very good with my cousin, but she had bought her when she was about 4 months of age.

my cousin offered me Willow for a fraction of what she is worth plus her cage and toys, and a vast amount of pellets....how could I refuse!
I felt sorry for Willow at my cousins house, she had more out of cage time, but she didn't really interact a whole lot with Willow. there were a few toys in the cage, but was kept super super clean!!

I try and give her more attention through out the day cause I am home, so I talk with her plenty, I've taught her to step up, shake her head for 'yes', and we copy each others whistles, and sounds.I give her foot toys, and rotate the toys weekly so she won't get bored.... she has to earn being out of her cage, so when I am totally comfortable that she is in a good mood, that is when I let her out.

I think Willow will continue to bond to you the longer she is with you. In time I am sure the relationship will get stronger and her trust in you will improve. Years ago I contemplated getting a Jardines parrot myself but they use to be really hard to find. I knew this woman in our bird club that had one and I really liked interacting with her Jardines.

I am looking to add one more flock member and that will be the Panama amazon I am always going on about. If that does not happen I always have my Valentino and Lupe's Julio.
