Pak-O-Bird for flying on airplane

Hi.

I am planning on buying a TAG next spring. I will most likely travel there by airplane. I am planning on purchasing a Pak-O-Bird in the Medium Modified option in the color Olive Green.

It is a bit too large to fit under the seat in front of me but I'm sure everything will work out.

Has anyone else had experiences when it comes to travelling on an airplane with a parrot? Especially when it comes to the Pak-O-Bird? I have travelled with Sammy once by airplane and everything went very well.

Well, the company that makes the Pack o Bird also makes a regulation airline carrier. I would recommend that instead because I fly with my birds quite often and last time I took one of them on my plane they measured the carrier and were very picky on the dimensions. The Pack o Bird is NOT the same dimensions as most if not all airlines require. However, I have heard of the airline just letting you fly with a Pack o Bird anyways but are you willing to take the risk? I am not.

Far better off buying a compliant travel cage. Regardless of what you may be told online or from a reservations agent, what matters is the day of travel. If found unacceptable by gate agents, you'll have little recourse atm.

I have considered it but ultimately I will not fly often with the bird but will use the pak-o-bird. I will look for other cheaper alternatives for the travel cage to be used during the flight.

If flying is going to be very limited or a one-time event, might buy a used travel cage and thoroughly clean/sanitize. Be sure to check the specific airline website for maximum dimensions to fit under the seat. Varies by aircraft but they usually quote the smallest. If flying on one of the major airlines express carriers, space is more limited.

When you book your flight, list the bird then! Many airlines have a limit on in cabin pets!

I have decided to get the AmazonBasics carrier in 19" as it fits under the set in front of me on the flight.

I am still considering purchasing a Pak-O-Bird.

I will need to modify the AmazonBasics carrier a bit (adding perch and toy hooks) but that shouldnt be too difficult.

I have a med P-o-B and for long trips ( 3+hrs) Salty travels in that. Never done air travel.sothe advice fromfolks who have should be heeded. P-o-B is a really well made product and pricey but well made is always pricey. The roll down flaps are a great feature cuz your parrot can get some rest and the whole thing unfolds prfectly flat for cleaning. They make them in Brooklyn so I went there and watched as they made mine.

If you are getting him from a breeder, see if you can send the carrier to him/her and have them start acclimating the bird ahead of time. You might have to wash it afterwards (due to other birds etc) but I am sure that is possible.
My bird is okay with some carriers/travel cages (and by that, I mean that she doesn't make me spend 20+ minutes trying to force her in anymore....but some, she won't even walk past when perched on my shoulder lol).
