So my mother informed me today she reserved a sun conure little one for me. A local family owned shop has 3 babies that are being hand fed by them, they have been hand raising birds for years, in hopes that I can start an early bond with it, then hopefully, after DNA sex test, possibly become a companion to my GCC who is about 6 months old. A Sun was what I was originally looking at but my GCC caught my heart first.
I've been given the pick of the 3 and even the chance to stop by any time and interact with them. The 'oldest' having some green and yellow already coming in, like a beard haha, and the youngest having looking more on the plucked turkey side with small feathers. Looking at photos online I'm guessing the range from 2.5 - 3 weeks old. They said it would be about 4-8 weeks(longer if he isn't ready) before I could bring him home. They want to be sure he's eating solid and regular food in stride since I don't feel comfortable with it. They did tell my mother that until they felt the little one was EXACTLY where he needed to be he wasn't leaving their hands. Which I completely agree with. And also offered to give me tips and 'games' to safely bond with the young one to avoid any behavior problems from the start.
Now the fun part. Like I said I've been given free pick and can stop to see them anytime. So other than the obvious health check, what should I look for as far as which one I should choose? I was told the oldest is the one who wants to be with you, but is fussy when he's not the center of attention. The middle just doesn't care but is vocal, and the youngest isn't as vocal but loves to play with fingers and be stroked. Granted this was what I was told from my mother. I've yet to meet them in person. I go tomorrow
. Do i want the one who is all over me or the one who is affectionate without all that spazz behavior? The family that raises them is very knowledgeable and always looking to help me be a better bird mom. Any help appreciated
