Prayers for me in taking care of these new Green Cheek Conures after grieving my Sun

Welcome! Sooooooooooooo glad you found us!

Your pictures are amazing... great photography, beautiful (and handsome) subjects, adorable antics of the birds. I had a huge grin on my face just imagining what a beautiful 'family' you are. I'm so glad you're able to honor your Sun's loss by passing the blessings along to these little beauties.

MANNNNNNNN... GCCs yet again, just charming the pixels off the internet!!!!!!!!!!! I think they may take the world over somehow or other...

HAHAHAH Yes Green cheeks and Others Pyrrhura will take over the world. What a fun crazy world it will be.
They truly will :)

They are so cute! I love how they line up on your shoulder.
Very glad they feel safe enough to connect with me like that, as I've figured out they love to chill with me like that or travel on my arm frequently as I walk - they are very loving. And they love photos..

In example, I tried to chill and gave supervised time with play/interaction for the babies - and Caught them in the middle of Sabbath Rest for the weekend and one of them (Peace / PeaCee) woke up when he knew he was being filmed - amazed at how much he ALWAYS stops whatever he's doing to look like he poses for the camera, as I cracked up thinking "Dude's trying to hide and be mysterious like Prince"....

It reminded me of how it makes a lot of difference enjoying what God gives in creation like St. Francis of Assisi did, who preached to men AND animals since all God made was made/meant to reflect t Him (and the man loved birds).

For me, believing in God/Jesus, having a bird carries a lot of meaning...as people often associate Saint Francis of Assisi with birds and there are 13th-century stories of Francis preaching to birds in trees - with one famous painting by portraying Francis humbly admiring birds on the ground, his hand raised in blessing.

And of course, Kevin of Glendalough had the same experience....

That said, they always make me smile and it's like having children to a certain extent. I've been very protective of them since getting them on their first day/drive (about an hour and a half home)...

I do hope to use them in ministry some how.....people have said they learn a lot seeing me in action already - if God opens up the doors further (and to be clear, I LOVE zoology and always have as a kid), I am trusting Him to make it possible. I love connecting with animals God made. And one of the signs of a righteous man, the Bible says, is that he takes care of his animals (Proverbs 12:10). And God has always been involved in that.

God didn’t tell Noah to go out and round up the animals, as He told him to bring them into the ark (Gen. 6:19), which meant to simply receive them since the text says the animals “went into the ark to Noah” (Gen. 7:9) before the Flood: God drew them to the ark and communicated with them directly, and they responded. Same happened with God communicating with the prophet Elijah, when Elijah fled from Ahab, king of Israel, to an area east of the Jordan River and God commanded ravens to bring him food while he was there, and they did (1 Kings 17:4-6). Folks can't tell me God isn't concerned for everything he made. The full extent of God's concern includes whatever birds go through (Matthew 10:29-31) on top of humans - so no one can tell me God doesn't get enjoyment when we enjoy what He made :)
I'm right in track with you! I believe that animals see the Glory of God very plainly, I watch my animals and just think how blessed they are for the way that they know Him.
Soli Deo Gloria

Good to know I'm not crazy or alone in seeing things like that :) Each and every good thing is a gift and we can't squander it. I have had many days where I came home and just sat in my room with my birds because I enjoyed looking at them when I was praying or reading my Bible or watching a documentary.

Indeed, Soli Deo Gloria!

I'm just praying for strength to be the best caretaker they need :)

Re: Prayers/Wisdom for Caring for these new Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conures

The first step to potty training is observing how long between each potty they naturally go. For EB it was about 12-13 minutes.

So you're going to try to predict when they potty. As soon as I saw her potty, I would try to associate a word (go poop, go potty) then start the timer. At about 10 or 11 minutes I would move her to the target, trash can, newspaper, etc. And start saying the word, go potty. Which would come naturally because it was almost time.

When she did potty I would praise her with
, really loud good girl, go potty, laughing. They love a rucus. And they love to be adored!

The difficult thing is every 10-12 minutes of the day being disciplined enough for us to train them.

The rest came naturally she stopped seeing me as the place to potty.
She loves to play on the back of the couch, and won't potty there, but she finds anywhere else on the couch acceptable, so I try to be mindful of timing and moving her to an acceptable place.

EB finished up the training herself basically. If I'm holding her, which I usually am, any time I set her down she goes. So I have to train myself as to what I set her on.

They are BRILLIANT creatures, so intelligent and thoughtful.

The time also grew she can sit on me for 30 minutes, I have to remind myself to give her a little break.

That helps greatly and I'll to implement that strategy A.S.A.P - thinking it'll be excellent. I've found for the girl and boy that anytime they fly/land on the floor or on a new setting, they'll poop. And the same goes for whenever they ride on my shoulder. It's near 8 minutes of being on me and other times more....although I have noticed that with the girl, if I pick her up, she immediately poops when I take her from the cage.

Seeing how intelligent they are, I am encouraged at how much they've progressed so far. They've actually sat on my hand and either fallen asleep or sat still for 20 minutes or more when they're comfortable and I know that any sudden movements will lead to them pooping - but they already do well in other areas.

Knowing when and how they poop is a good handle on potty training, you'll just be expanding on what they naturally do. It seems like they have a bit of a pattern going already. You're off to a good start.

Thankful for that......

Congrats on the new babies, and I am so sorry to hear how your Mango passed. My mom had a ferret many years ago who she took her eyes off of for 5 minutes and managed to suffocate herself in the couch my mom was replacing the next day because she was concerned about that very thing happening. It is horrible when accidents like that happen.

But you and the new babies seem to love each other very much. :) It makes me smile to see all the pictures of the 3 of you bonding. You clearly have a very loving heart and they feel it too.

Tried that trick and it was amazing how it seemed to work...

Biggest thing now is training them to handle waiting in-between for poop moments, but I'm hoping it'll be handled within the next couple of months. It is interesting to see their experiences play out and how they operate differently. I've noticed that when the girl (Qui Qui) goes, her brother will end up pooping not too long after. But she seems to be the older one in charge anyhow since PeaCee is more of a clown.

Congrats on the new babies, and I am so sorry to hear how your Mango passed.
Appreciate it with the congrats and thank you for the condolences. I'm truly praying my babies get to pass in a manner that Mango should've (old age/peacefully).

It truly is when seeing how quickly things can occur. It's part of why I often check in - amazed at how much I think on my babies when I spend time with them or am away for awhile.

Glad to know the pictures are a blessing :)

Hoping to upload videos since most of the videos I took were with my phone and FB.

Back from teaching Children's Church tonight and Praying for the money/finances to take my babies to the vet as I'm overdue and needing to make sure on one of them because their feathers have been ruffled - and that can mean sickness. At least as far as I can tell.

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm taking them to the vet today (first time for their trip and praying - hoping it's doable).

Birds being able to fly, I am trying to find ways to train them still so that they do not poop. They both know how to fly now and the girl has been pooping at random places when I walk around and I don't realize that they poop when they chill on my shoulder.

It is interesting trying to train both of them - they stay with me at all times when I am with them and they are on my shoulder....but now that they are able to fly to high places, it is a bit more of a handle (And of course, I make certain fans are off and bathrooms are closed and other places are off limits). My parents had a bit of a problem when they started to fly to higher places and had a problem. If I ask them to come to me, it takes awhile...AND If I bring a broom for them to step on, they fly away immediately in panic. It takes awhile for them to go back to the cage and chill like nothing happened - but as my parents said they found poop in odd places (and I realized where), I am having to remember that they are like toddlers.

If anyone has any videos, please let me know...
