Goffin's cockatoo
Hi,

New register here with 30-year old very spoiled (aren't they all) Goffin's cockatoo. He's been picking more than usual this year and I suspect it's hormones. A fill-in vet recommended parrot red palm oil. Anyone out there try this? Pros/cons?

Thanks!

Greetings

Many of us do, yes, but it won’t settle hormone. It’s really only good for an infusion of beta carotene (vitamin a). Hormones youll have to wait out...after you’ve taken all the typical steps to ease hormones: 12 hours of sleep, don’t touch a nowhere but the head, no access to dark places/huts, to name a few. Standard hormonal control measures.

Thanks! Normally he's pretty calm and with COVID-19 it's near impossible to get any labwork done right now in case something else is going on. I've been buying him a lot of toys for distraction, and he seems a bit better.

What's really funny is the vet who recommended the red palm oil has a pet umbrella (female). I teased that I really need is to put them together for an hour :)
