Welp here we are months later after doing no research what so ever when my son decided he wanted two love birds and we got them… I can’t say I regret the experience because of the conditions we took our friends out of… well to keep it short and sweet I’m now working full time and I am only home 3 nights a week so I am no longer able to take care of my sons birds for him like I was previously and unfortunately the birds seem to be too big of a responsibility for him because today I realized for the second time since we have gotten the birds my son forgot to feed them … so I have two totes full of perches, toys, and accessories as well as their cage they are literally never in and three large bird gyms and I just ordered new food from chewy this afternoon… I refuse to give these babies to anyone else that doesn’t already have a good amount of knowledge regarding love birds and what it takes to care for them because I want the home they go to to be permanent and one where they thrive! Any ideas on how I should start looking to rehome them with knowledgeable owners?… how do the exotic bird rescues work? I don’t want to send them anywhere they won’t get what they need or be happy because they seem very vocal and happy … I just kno they could get better care and I really don’t have the time now that they require šŸ˜”

I have seen a couple of people find loving homes by contacting your local avian vet to see if they know of someone who is looking. If you are looking for an exotic rescue place I would really do some heavy research on them, and fully visit their location first because unfortunately there are a lot of bad actors out there.

So I think there may be a solution… my boyfriend offered to have me bring them to his apartment since I’m here most of the week… we are just waiting for a response from his leasing office… I’m crossing my fingers for moving them to his apartment because then I can go back to taking care of them properly and with some help finally… n this way my son can still see them but have no responsibility because it was too much for him and I’m so worried about my little friends ending up somewhere I don’t want them šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

You've put a lot of time, energy, and money into those lovebirds and have given them such a gifted life. The avian world needs more heroes like you and kme3388, Blue the macaw's new parront. I can only imagine what your son's room looks like after sharing it with two free flying lovebirds for months! My 11 free flying budgies love their lifestyle and so do I, but the mess can easily see our our et out of control if you're not on top if it a few times a week and it's a rare 19 year old

Honestly I just know our lovies need someone to take good care of them… no animal deserves anything less… I’m really hoping I can just keep them because worrying if they are being taken care of somewhere else will probably make me sick šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I know what you mean. I have 8 budgies in a very large divided cage on my enclosed adjacent porch (4 boys on one side and 4 girls on the other). These 8 budgies don't free fly because they aren't tame and I can't handle them like I do the other 11. I'd like to rehome them, but I can't bear the thought of them ending up living alone, neglected in small cages, or getting stepped on, crushed, killed by a cat or dog, or flying out a door or window, so I keep them.

That is heartbreaking
