Hi guys

I have an Hen Crimson Rosella and about 4 weeks i was given what I was told was a **** GMR or Eastern Rosella. I have them together in a large mixed aviary and they are getting along great (the **** bird displaying even trying to tread yesterday. Questions are.

1. is this an GMR as I don't see any yellow about it.

2. I know they can cross but will the young be fertile.

Rosella - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Look up Red Opaline Rosella. Eastern? Yes.

Can the hybrid offspring reproduce? I believe the answer to that is yes! The Adelaide Rosella is a hybrid of Crimson and Yellow Rosellas and they have created a hybrid swarm.

I wouldn't recommend hybridizing them unless there is a market for hybrid rosellas in your area and the offspring look like hybrids. The offspring between the two species typically do appear as hybrids (if a person knows how to correctly identify both species), however since the male is an opaline, I don't know what the hens may turn out looking like... as all female offspring would be opaline hybrids, and the males would be hybrids split opaline.

Many species of cockatoos are known to hybridize/crossbreed in the wild and rosellas seem to be more prolific than many of the other species, and there has been some concern that with the ease that rosellas interbreed & the fact that individual flock territories are shrinking and/or overlapping, that pure specie blood lines may be disappearing already, so if natural hybrid birds are becoming that abundant, hybrid eggs must be viable.....

Thanks guys

Red Opaline it is.

Appreciate the help.

Re: Rosella cross breeding.

Id like to say good luck with your pursuit in breeding this combo.
Just keep in mind they will need COMPLEAT privacy if your going to get them to hit it off.
I Now had to go and Buy a Opaline hen as I was told that there r heavy fines if I cross My golden mantle with a pale headed rosella,,,
and they also have been spotted in the wild .
Just be care full what you r crossing that's all.
Hope you succeed,:green2:
