Rhage landed safe and sound today! Amen.

The crate he was shipped in was really small, just long enough for him and talk enough for him to sit on his perch. So when he got home we decided to let him stretch a bit.

He crawled right up into my lap and plopped a seat! This baby Macaw who has never seen me before in his life! He was beyond sweet with saying hello to everyone, and chattered away with us. He and I 'shared' an apple too! And his step up command is almost completely perfect already. He loves head and beak scratches while he rubs his chin :)

He's mouthy as can be, grabbing everything, but very gentle with his mouth :) but I expected that. He enjoys 'hissing' at people lol. Opens his mouth, hisses, and tries to get your fingers.

His feet are a bit tender from gripping that perch for 6 hours but they have no signs of swelling of injury. And he's a bit clutsy at the moment. He got to stretch, flap his wings, and eat and drink before relaxing in his cage.

So far he's perfect and exactly what I was hoping for. But we've only just begun. I can only imagine the trouble im in for once his 'newbie' faze is over and he becomes a demon :D:D.

First thing to work on? No shoulders!! It seems to be his WANT place to be lol. That's a no no my dearest.

Baby macaws are just about the cutest thing this planet has ever produced. Congrats!

Awww. he is beautiful. Welcome Rhage, to the next part of your life.

You're a beautiful pair!

Congtats on your new baby macs are great i whsh i could have gotten lucky as a baby
Baby macs are just way too cute

He's an absolute love bug :) I asked him if he wanted to come out, he held up his foot and stepped right up. He knows that very well already :)

He sat on the floor or in my lap, then rolled over onto his back ha-ha. He has let me pick him up(wrapping my hands around him and his wings and lifting), play with his wings, his beak, his feet, tail, and touch all over with no complaint.

He's not as into toys as he is playing with hands and any skin he can find. But he's so gentle about it. Alrwae a great start to pressure training :)

Glad Rhage arrived safely, lovely pictures!!

He seems very well socialized, a bonus for quickly developing a deep bond that will help you through the more challenging times!

Beautiful! This forum has turned me from, "I'll never touch a Mac." To "Wish I could have one." I will enjoy more pics like everyone else. Enjoy this beautiful baby!

Very cute. My baby mac loved to sit on shoulders too, and would nicely lean down to snap any button on my clothes in half with one snap of the beak. His favorite place to play became the crystal chandelier where he would gleefully hang from and snap each dangly crystal off one at a time... Free flying problems mac style LOL. Training to stay on play stand become priority #1. Enjoy your baby... they grow up so fast.

Congrats! What breeder did you get him from? I live in State College and I guess you're in the Pittsburgh area. I'm not aware of any macaw breeders in the Philly area, only the huge breeders that are partners in Scranton and Hazelton. If that's where you got him I've heard wonderful things about the two women that own that breeding business.

I had the same issue finding a breeder.

I got him from Todd Marcus Exotic Birds in Delran NJ. I heard about them from a few people and drive the 6 more to see for myself what they were about. It's a store that specialises in all things bird :) lots of beautiful, friendly, babies. Hand raised. Everyone there was great and the birds are so well socialized. After looking at a few other places, we decided on them. Definitely would recommend.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll have to check them out because actually someone else told me about them! I was in Red Bank, NJ for a weekend concert expedition last year and on Sunday we decided to drive to a bird shop about an hour south. It was awful, filthy and it stunk horribly, and I felt so bad for all the babies, they had babies with no feathers yet out in plastic bins for customers to freely grab and pick up, no heaters, I was horrified. So we left and swung by a PetSmart nearby just to look. We told a manager there about how awful the bird store was and how we wasted an afternoon going to see this place, and the manager told us that if we want to go to a wonderful bird store it's in Delran! So I got on there website on my phone, and it looked awesome! Congrats again, and next time I'm in NJ I'm definitely checking it out!
