I have a Greed Cheek Demon spawn
So my conure is about 2 years old, I think it's a boy, and I've had him about 2 months, everywhere on the internet it implies that my bird likes me, he does the beak grind thing showing that he has affection for me, he always chats with me and will grab food from in his cage and fly out to the door to eat near me about two feet away, he'll also jump on my chair when I get up sometimes, he'll skwak at me if im gone too long in a different room, and he'll sometimes sit at the edge of his door and act likes hes about to fly to me but hesitates every single time and flies directly past me and back around, and it's just been stuck at this same plateau for like 2 weeks, I dont know what to do to encourage him, he doesn't accept treats from hands, even when I show him and set it down and leave, he sees hands as suspicious. Anyone have any ideas? I'm attempting to see what happens if I remove his cage from the room entirely and put food and water somewhat near me while I just ignore him, not completely, but like not paying attention to what he does, so he's not threatened. Please help lol, do I just wait and be patient or is their a step I'm missing? I hear some ppl have conures that still are hand scared after a year or more, even hand fed ones, which he is supposedly.

Yeah, it can take a conure a while to get used to hands. I've had Quasar and Tialgate for almost 4 months, and Quasar is FINALLY taking food from my fingers. Have you tried eating some of his treats, or pretending to? That's what got my conures to start taking treats from me.

As for moving the cage and leaving the food bowls - you could give that a try. For some birds it works :)

Good luck and keep us posted!

Ill try pretending to eat the treats havent tried that yet. But last night i did remove the cage from the living room and put his food and water on a table about a foot away from me, and about 2 hours later he flew down and started eating and drinking, gave him praise and alot of "good boys" and then immediately put his cage back in the room to show he did a good job.

What worked for me.... Get a pullover or sweater and cover your hands. So your dangerous claws aren't visible. Keep them inside the sleeves, then its just harmless clothing and you can use the sleeve as a mitten to hold food. Worked for me should for you.

Oh and not gloves just full on useless harmless cloth tubes.

I've heard that multiple times and my brain keeps convincing me it cant work, my bird is sharp as hell, dude can smell bullsh*t a mile away XD. I guess I'll try it, maybe chop off the sleeves of a useless sweater, because I'm dying of heat exhaustion after 10 minutes in his 75 degree humid room lol. Thanks though, I'll give it a try. :green:

It's worth a few attempts....

Even a long sleeved t shirt pulled over the hands can work for birds who hate hands. I think they dislike hands because hands can grab them and restrain them.
