Hey all,

I got a baby Indian Ringneck male yesterday, he is about 45 days old - i am not sure though.
The breeder told me to feed him with syringe twice a day but he is eating pellets also.

So yesterday i got him and i feed him - all was fine.
Today morning i put him out to feed him but he did not want to eat.
And then i wanted to clean his cage so i took him out and i did the mistake to put him in a small washing bowl for 2 minutes to change his food, water etc.
And he got scared so i took him in my hand and tried to place him a bit on the table while i had him in my hand and he tried to escape so i tried to keep him and he went for 3 seconds below an aluminum bowl i had on the table.

After this incident, he is very scared. when i get close to the cage he is trying to go away and he is not moving at all.i tried to feed him with syringe without taking him out of the cage, just approached my hand with syringe but left immediately. and he was breathing very fast.
Also i am not sure if his droppings are ok today, is not very clear because i can not see the cage very well as i dont want to scare him.

So i am not very sure what to do now to gain his trust again. He does not seem to respond. It is 2nd day i have him at home and i am not sure if he is eating well now or drink water.
first two photos from yesterday and the rest from today.

Please give some help and thank you in advance.

I personally would contact the breeder to ask them about what is going on with this baby! The other thing is don't try to messing with him when you are feeling stressesed because he will pick up on that. Wishing you luck with this adorable baby.

Trapping ANY parrot under a bowl is going to destroy any trust he had. Parrots are ALL about trust, and you need to know that deep down. ANything you do always measure it by that - will this build trust or break it.

How is the baby doing?

How is the baby doing?
Yesterday was doing fine, he started climbing and i manage to give him some formula and he played also with a toy i gave him. I also put him some music and stayed close to the cage and he seemed to enjoy the music as he was started moving.
Today in the morning when he saw me he was scared again though.

Also, yesterday morning, before i give him the formula, i saw some redness in his chest - but i am not sure if he had him already when i took him from the breader as he is with his back turned on me most of the times. Or because he started climbing and he got hurt anywhere.
He is not fully feathered yet so might be also normal skin showing through. The photo here is when he was sitting on his water bowl so i am not also sure if he got wet and the skin was showing because of this.
Also the breeder told me to leave the formula for 1-3 minutes after boiling and mix and then feed him with the syringe but i saw that the formula needs to be in a specific temperature. Is that right?
I have not feed him many times with the formula, Friday in the evening, some small drops on Saturday cause he was scared and yesterday one time.

In general yesterday he was in a very good mood, i will start giving him also some fruits / vegetables today. He is eating also some pellets.

Today i am getting him a bigger cage with lots of toys.

But i am very stressed and concerned about this redness in the chest so i will take him to vet in the afternoon.
Any ideas about this redness?
I also saw that he got new feathers now in the back - in this spot that was missing.

Thanks so much

I cannot tell by the picture what the chest spot might be. On the formula you have to be really careful that it is not too hot. It can burn their crop. In the morning before trying to pick him up, just try talking to him for a while to let him know all is well. Hoping the chest spot is normal. Keep us posted.

hey, update on Jordan!
We went to the vet today, he told be that it was just the skin showing and everything is normal, droppings etc.
I managed to give him two times formula today with the spoon and since then our relationship is way better. He is letting me now pet him.
He also started dancing to the music and chirping for first time!!
We got a new cage too! He is a bit shy with the camera :)

Such a cutie! Keep offering a variety of birdie safe fresh veggies and fruits. It will help with the number one problem all bird parents face: HOW CAN I GET MY PARROT TO EAT HEALTHY!

Guys i went to another avian vet and he told me that he is very young and the breeder shouldn't have sold it to me. The breeder told me to feed him twice a day and the doctor told me that he lost weight, he should be 140gr and he is 110gr. Doctor said he does not know if he will survive. he also gave me a medicine to give him 3 times, every 48 hours. i started feeding him more, also vegetables. i was doing that also the previous days. Jordan seems fine though, he is asking for food and he is very active. i am really scared that the doctor told me that might not survive. is there any possibility to feed him from today 6 times a day and not gain weight? I would appreciate some help.

If he is that young, feeding baby parrot formula is the right way to go. PAY ATTENTION to the directions for consistency and TEMPRATURE. Once he start to reject eating formula, then its time to feed solids, ie mushed up veggies and crushed pellets mixed together, or what ever else he will eat. Strained baby human foods, like peas and carrots also a good transition food. He won't die but feed him properly.

As above. Do you have a scale? If not get one. Weight is one of the best indicators of health. Weigh first thing in the morning after his A.M. poo. Remember to that birds hide being sick. What did the vet give you? An actual medicine or a juvenile recovery formula?

Thank you for your reply. i have scale and i will watch him closely with the weight now. since i am working and need to feed him 6 times a day, doctor told me to feed him at 5am and then 7am, then after my work, at 4pm and 6pm and then in the evening last time with 2 hours difference.
Today he got one in the morning, then one at 5pm, some cucumber in between and then at 8pm. now i will feed him again around 12am and 2am. These days that i am off work, i will split 6 times, not every 2 hours.

Doctor told me that he needs about 20 more days with formula, then he will start eating pellets.

yes, he gave medicine because he had a fungal infection, and he gave him a syrup for me to administer three times. every 48 hours, his poop is already ok now cause he had some diarhea. he is very active in general and he asks for food. i hope he will make it.

This breaks my heart to hear! I am so sorry that this breeder sold you this baby too young! I kinda wondered about his age in the photos, but I am not a baby Indian ring neck expert. I will be praying that the extra feedings and the meds will help him to gain weight. 🙏

How is the baby doing today? I can't stop thinking about him, as we have a 12 yr old Ringneck.
