I've peeked into our bird room after "lights out" (using the light from the hallway behind me), and seen Budgies in all sorts of positions! I've also seen them nap on the edges of food dishes, even when there is plenty of space on perches. I guess it's comfortable in a way that we don't understand.

Eleven Budgies sitting on Kona and Pepper's cage while I was cleaning their own cage (it's a long double-style one with the divider removed). All of them except Scout. She was still on the top of their cage; she can't fly. I sometimes offer her my hand so I can take her to the others, but she chose to stay where she was.

How do you deal with sexually aggressive behavior? I have a couple young males that are practically rapists. I can let all eleven of my free flying budgies out in the same room because they won't leave the girls alone and my youngest female Joey got "knocked up" and started laying eggs at only 6 months old! I have two females who mate and lay eggs together. Don't you find eggs on the bottom of the cage?

Strangely I am not having these issues. Not even one egg yet! We got our first Budgie in February 2023 and our most recent one in February 2025. No eggs, and there are only two couples (Basil and Aspen, and Griffin and Freya).

Basil tries to approach and feed all the females sometimes, and I've seen him almost mate with Aspen and Misfit. (He now favors Aspen over Misfit.) But I never catch any birds mating, and still no eggs. Griffin sits near Freya and feeds her, but again, no mating.

I did need to remove a bowl from a play stand because Aspen kept plopping down in it while Basil brought food to her. It was the closest attempt to setting up a nest that I've seen so far.

You're lucky! I wish my budgies would just enjoy being budgies and stop trying to make more budgies. Once they start breeding its very hard to stop them. Even without a box my little girl Joey laid 4 eggs in her cage at only 6 months old and sat on them for ten days before I broke the cycle by taking them away and putting her in a different environment. Now I have to keep her separated from the flock because the boys find her irresistable apparently and she asks for it. She's incredibly bonded to me and my husband to almost being a nuisance. She wants to be on us all the time, gives us kisses and grooms us and hates when we have to put her in her cage. She really wants to be with the other birds in the next room but I don't want her to try to breed again.

Came back from the grocery store this morning and forgot to close the pantry door.
Bella took advantage, no wonder she was so quiet.

Did I get everything Bella, miss something?

Does Bella nibble on items while in pantry?
She has in the past .
But there isn’t any bad food that could hurt her.
Just an inconvenience if she destroys something.
She hasn’t gotten in there for long time.

How long was she missing before you found her?
I fell asleep on the couch.
I depended on waking up if she got into trouble.
Trouble for Bella usually involves noise.
She was using her ninja skills
Was asleep about an hour, plenty of time for her to do damage if she wanted to.
Just exploring
