Hi I am looking to get a green cheeked conure. I've been doing research and preparing for it for a while now. I am just unsure about cage size. I found this one but am unsure if its good or if anyone has any other suggestions that they trust. In general nice cage... But, I would target a cage that provides a front door that is full height on the cage! You will find that feature a true joy when you are with easy in and out of a cage with a full height door.

Pet /Child proof cage!?!? Not sure what you are attempting to avoid. Depending on the 'pet' the definition changes widely and rapidly. As a general statement, Birds and most other Pets are not a good combination for the Bird...

With Kids, that's all on you! I have heard a ton of horror stories from Kids climbing the cage (that went South fast) to Kids eating with the Bird.

With cages, start with a cage that your Parrot cannot fit its head between the bars!!! The method I use is to obtain the distance between eyes. That is the maximum center to center bar setting.

Oh when I meant pet proof I meant that I know conures can open cage doors pretty easily so I want something to keep him in when I can't have him out

A determined Parrot vs Cage: The cages loss more often than the Parrot. We have an Amazon and he just disassembles the primary section of the cage and walks out.

We have purchased three from them over the years and have never had problems with the shipment not being correct as they only handle cages and cage accessories.

Last I recalled they sell addition stainless steel bowls, which are large and allows us to place smaller bowls in them, which easies switching out different dry and wet foods during the day. Buy, at least two additional bowls as five years from now you will be wishing you had.

They also sell a 'package' of Bird Toys by Parrot size: small medium and large birds. Go value for what you receive...

I believe the bar spacing is center to center around 5/8"

Nice part is that you are dealing with the US Warehouse of the China Manufacturer. Another way of saying, the good stuff goes to their own warehouse.
NOTE: With the exception of a few Custom Built cages, all cages are built in one of the three China based builders.

I have a cage similar to the one you posted first. It holds my senior cockatiel, but it isn't super duper sturdy. It works, but you can tell it is a cheap cage. Only good for a handful of years, if that.

Get the biggest cage you can and make sure it isn't made of any toxic metals or coatings (no zinc, copper, unsafe coatings, lead etc) --oh and width and depth matter more than height.

I have 5 conures and tend to use big flight cages (probably not what you are looking for for your upcoming bird). I have one solo cage and I would recommend it. My first conures (Baby & Tango) came with this cage and it is probably at least 6 years old. It is holding up well - no rust, easy to clean, the bowls are secure, full height door, and no one has escaped it yet. It moved across the state in the back of a truck when I picked them up and came out unscathed. It took me forever to figure out what brand it was (I wanted more bowls for it so had to hunt it down). This is the same as the cage I recently upgraded my Son Conure into. She likes it well enough. If I could change one thing I would make it a little less deep and a smidge taller as it is hard to reach in all the way to the back. Also:this is a warning be careful of the welds!! One of the seedcup Holders fell off. That’s OK I didn’t use that one anyway.

However when originally putting the cage together, one of the top welds was Not fully attached. Thankfully it Broke itself & Collapsed BEFORE my Conure was in there! Otherwise there could’ve been a very bad disaster.

Petco was very good at helping me replace it however. At this point the welds are fine. But I do have zip-ties at the top as a back-up just-in-case.

That said, the result is a really good cage and I highly recommend it. I especially like the full height big door on the front. Petco’s Bird Whisperer calls this cage the Conure Taj Mahal. If goes together easily- just make sure you firmly check all its welds when you assemble it!!!!!

I also keep a much smaller cage. The preview Hendrix “cage kit for small/medium BIrds.”. Appx 14Deep x 18w x 22H It is the perfect size for a travel & sleep overnight cage. The great thing about it is the large size door. I use it daily as Sleep cage for my one Conure. However this smaller cage would not be good as a main cage. It works fine as a starter cage (it includes some knickknacks) but you would need to upgrade your main cage fairly quickly.

Also does anyone who live is Los Angeles know of a good breeder or rescue I can find a GCC. My pet store always has some but they are charging 600$ for each, which I know is way overpriced.
