There is a "family" of crows where I work that know me.
I have watched and fed several generations as they grew up and even held a young fledgling in my hand. He had flown into a window and was stunned.
When they see me they recognize me and fly over in such a way that I can't miss seeing them cuz they want me to feed them.
When baby crows fledge they leave the nest too soon. They don't know what they can and can't land on, will fly into windows and stuff. What ends up happening is they will end up in a tree and then the parents will circle the tree and warn people away(I think). It could be they are teaching their babies what to be worried about. Telling them “be quiet” and “look out”.
They use to do this with me also but stopped this behavior. I noticed a tree that every time a person walked by the circling crows would make a racket but when I walked over and deliberately looked for the fledgling the did not react.
Ether they knew I was not a danger to them or they did not want to draw my attention to the fledgling.
Anyway crows and ravens have always impressed me with their intelligence. There was a show on PBS called “ A Murder Of Crows” that is very much worth watching if you are interested in everything with feathers.
