Hi I have a 9wk old dna male sun conure I just got this week. I don’t think he is a sun though. All of the photos I’ve seen of juvenile suns, even the ones with hardly any feathers, have yellow on the wings. He has solid green. Can anyone tell me? I’m sort of upset as I spent almost $600 on him from a very popular and reputable place here in south Texas.

Welcome to the forum!
Too young to tell???? Could go either way

I also can't help, I can only do it more complicated - sun and jenday conures can cross breed, their hybrid is called "sunday conure". So now you have a problem if he is a sun, jenday or sunday conure.

He is too you g to tell, his head is still green!
This is a breeder, shows pics of available babies , they look just like yours

Thanks guys! To be clear, I’m not at all upset over my baby. He is absolutely perfect!!! It was just sort of shocking when I was told there’s no way he’s a sun by a guy who has an aviary. Then when I called the breeder, he got super angry I asked. I love my little guy sooo much. He is the sweetest baby. Thanks for y’alls input!! Glad to be a conure mom!

A year ago when I got my petstore Sun Conure --just because I Fell In Love, no other reason-- I had a number of people, including the first vet we went to, who said she couldn't be a Sun, too much green, Must be a Jenday. She was 6-Months old at that point! At the time, I said, well I don't see any reason the store would've mis-identified her. They sell various birds, one-at-a-time; and the price is the same for both kinds. They know what they're doing. They said she's a Sun, so, she must be a Sun.

Now, a year- (& a couple feather-changes)- later, her coloring matches exactly for a typical Sun Conure. No question at all.

So, if your Reputable Breeder said yours is a SUN - I'd go with that, I'm sure he is!

:)

Wow! I am so excited to see what this little guy grows into. They seem sure he is a sun however said there’s always a possibility he could be a Sunday. I look forward to staying in the forum and learning all I can! Thanks for everyone’s replies!

I can almost completely guarantee its a sun conure
Cheers

Been a few months now... if you needed a vote.... Sun conure. (if you ever come back to see this thread)

Not all sun conure chicks will have yellow in their wings. Some are born extremely green. I see no jenday features. Perhaps the chick is already starting to molt into adult feather coloration?
