This is why I don’t use Teflon pans

I NEVER do this. But today I began cooking noodles, then went to do something with the new printer. Luckily I smelled the noodles before they were all ruined ... it’s a hassle to clean a burnt stainless steel pan, but it will be good as new when I’m done.

Thankfully Gus is staying with a friend until we finish getting countertops installed. But what if he had been here, and this was a nonstick pan? He might have died. Please, if anyone uses Teflon thinking “it’s ok as long as I’m careful and watch it” - stop. I’m as careful as anyone, I cook all the time, dinner from scratch every night, all the professional doodads ... and I still burned a pan. Please, if you have Teflon pans, get rid of them. Hang the expense, if you lose a beloved bird you would pay anything to go back in time and change them. So do it now.

Are the Caphalon pans teflon? We have a bunch of them, but only use the cast iron and enameled stainless steel fry pans since I found out about Teflon. Is it only poisonous if burnt? All of our pots are Caphalon...ugh.

Lol when I first asked my mom whether we had teflon pans a few years go when we got our first birds she said "please, that's so archaic. I don't think we've had teflon since the 1990s".

Teflon is a brand name for their specific formula of non-stick coating but it's widely and often used to mean any non-stick coating with the chemicals known as PTFE and/or PFOA. Any pan covered in the very recognizable black non-stick coating will be dangerous because they have those chemicals.

Calphalon makes both non-stick and stainless steel pans but the non-stick are certainly more popular (and usually cheaper). I had four of them before our cockatiel and got rid of them all. One day, I'll buy their stainless steel set but can't afford it at the moment. We bought a couple cast irons and some cheaper Cusinart stainless steel for now.

Don't forget hair dryers too. They often have teflon coatings, so never blow dry ur birds after a bath.

I read about the teflon pans before I adopted the birds, but i didnt know about all of the other products that have nonstick until possibly that very night. So i ate a raw diet until I bought an induction plate. I cook with an iron skillet and I have a steel pot, too.
But i really miss the convenience and taste of baked food. I only used an Oster toaster oven from Target, before, but Im too afraid to use it, now. I pop the window open (its about 6 ft away) when I cook, but Im still worried about it. Ive talked to other people, recently, who have a whole house filled with birds, and they use their oven with the windows open. But I am scared s***less to do it.

Also, I dont know what Im going to do about having wet hair in the winter. I like to shower early in the morning before work. And I hate going to bed with wet hair. I have thick hair, and it will not dry thoroughly by morning.
Any practical resolutions to this problem? Other than shave my head?

And because my hair is long, I get bath drain stoppage sometimes. I used to pour a liquid cleaner down the drain; it seemed like the only thing to cut through the hair. The green products never worked. The pipes are old and I couldnt get a router down past about two feet of the drain. Any suggestions on how to handle this problem?
