Congo African Grey (Lulu)
Hey all :).

Me and my dad was in a pet store a couple weeks ago, and here we saw a Rainbow Lorikeet for the first time. My dad fell in love LOL :p. He wanted one. We came home and read about them and came to the conclusion that we don't think they do well in an apartment, so we forgot all about that. I showed my dad a GCC yesterday and he told me that I shoud find a breeder immediately. Daddy fell in love again LOL. Now I'm trying to find a breeder :). I've read about them and they sound gorgeous so I am looking forwad to be getting one :).

What can you tell me about GCC? Any good advice?
I've a African Grey and she is not so good with other than me and my dad. How will they do together?
Are there any similarites between AG and GCC or are they just totally different?

Yet another GCC on the forums.... :)
SpiritBird has an AG and a GCC. I think I remember her saying that they fight. GCC are like that.... they think they are huge birds :P

Yea I saw the video she posted. That did not look to good.. :( Are they all like that? Is it a bad idea we bring home a GCC? I hope SpiritBird will give her opinion here :).

Im not sure... I think it pretty much depends on the personality of the birds. Maybe you could bring Lulu with you when you get your new baby. But that could also spread disease...I think you should pm SB :)

Maybe she will reply here. If not I will send a pm to her :)
All advice are highly appreciated :)

I have both and I let them out separately.....GCC are instigators and are not afraid to fight the big birds. And they will lose....The conures are ALWAYS out by themselves.....

Thanks for the information. Maybe we should consider bringing home a Conure again. I won't let my CAG feel threatened in way :).

I have had a GCC for about a year to a year and a half. I think they are wonderful companions. If you want a bird that loves to snuggle, thrives on attention, and will love you to death then you made the right choice. In the talking department no one will mistake Cracker (that is the name of my GCC) for an African Grey. For the longest of time all he would say is "Cracker". Now he can also say "good bird" and "bad bird". That is the extent of his vocabulary. You might have better luck teaching your GCC how to speak because teaching Cracker how to speak was never a priority with me. He does recognize his name and he will come to me when I call him.
I did have a rough time with Cracker the first few months I had him. Cracker had a big biting problem that was not fun for me, but I managed to weather the storm. I have not been bitten by Cracker in the longest of time, however, he will still nip me to let me no when I do something to displease him. Aside from those first few months, Cracker has been a great companion. As I said in the beginning he loves to snuggle and enjoys every second I spend with him. I cannot imagine what I would if Cracker was not around. He means that much to me. If you do decide to get a GCC and show a little patience through what could be a tough adustment period you will be rewarded not with a great pet, but with a loving, affectionate, intelligent, and playful best friend for life. GCC can live up to thirty years.
Good luck!
