What age to introduce cage to baby parrot?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 10-month-old African Grey parrot. He can stand and walk normally, and he is very social and friendly.
The only issue is that he often gets dirty because he walks through and sometimes sleeps on his droppings. Because of this, I bought a small cage and placed him inside it to help keep him cleaner.
My question is: could keeping him in a smaller cage cause any problems for him? Is this behavior normal for a young African Grey, or should I be concerned?

@DonnaBudgie thank you for the reply. but Sometimes I feel like that He isn’t happy inside the cage.

He will have to get used to it unless you want to keep him cageless! Put lots of interesting toys in there and he will learn to climb around and enjoy it. Put natural wood branch perches because they're better for his feet than dowel rods.
What are you feeding him? Has he been seen by an avian vet yet?
He's really cute. What's his name?

I’m currently feeding him formula, and I give him apple and boiled corn as snacks. The vet said these foods are okay for him.

I put my baby grey in small cage at 4 months. She didn't have far to fall. Maybe 3 inches. Increasing perch and cage size as she got older. She kinda demanded it as her wing flapping increased. She was in her full size at 10 months.

My Grey is 2 months old, and he sits on perches very well. However, he doesn’t like being inside the cage. I have a small perch outside the cage, and he likes it very much. He seems very happy there.

Toddlers will be toddlers. CAG's have strong personalities. All parrots are smart. They love training their human pets! Becareful and Beware! Read through the posts here. There's something that applies to everyone no mater the type. Bird personality affects a lot. All parrots tend to resist new. Try rigging a perch in his space. PVC are cheap and easy to custom make. Patience, patience, more patience and persistence are required. Start playing music, audio books, TV, streaming or whatever. See what he likes. Mine loved B&W, ganster, 3 Stooges, anime, whoever and Ferb before 6 months. Leave area for progessive longer periods of time be there and quiet. This will help with separation anxiety like getting groceries. Good luck. You got a real cutie there.

Many years ago we had a AG, and we too got him when he was a couple of months old. They are extremly intelligent and he will need love to have toys and enrichment items in his cage. All parrots are different in the likes, so you may have to play around with what he likes. Almost all parrots like things that have color, so think along those lines when choosing enrichment toys.
