Why is she so mean!?

The horses bones in his hooves were eaten away at a young age although he never was lame, he was in terrible pain and his bone was almost through the sole of his hoof.... We only knew this after copious x-rays...

There is a reason for everything... No matter what you think.. There is.

Of course pain should always be ruled as a cause for misbehaviour, and often it can be ruled out. All the xrays in the world will not fix a horse who has learned to rear as a way to get out of working - sometimes they just need a couple bops on the head. Or something else, but there's many ways to tackle any issue, and not all methods will work in all situations and all scenarios.

Abuse and discipline can walk a fine line. I guess people can get frustrated, get carried away and then the discipline takes an ugly turn into abuse.

Positive correction is never based on fear, it can be unpleasant, but never fearful. The second it starts to instill fear, it can probably be called abuse.

Back to a bird in a pillow case situation. Your bird may be confident, and so didn't get too scared, but imagine another bird, a scaredy bird - they would be terrified!

I don't think your pillow-case method should be placed on the list of how to train your bird not to bite, so I wouldn't share that with the world. Next time think about what advice you are giving other people - there may be some who don't know better, and will end up 'abusing' their birds with this method!

Positive correction cannot be unpleasant by definition, I don't think. Negative correction is never based on fear, either. I do agree that people can take it too far, but that same frustration can occur with those who set out to be positive-only, which is why a framework, a series of steps and options, is a much better way to present ideas for solutions, tailored to specific situations, rather than to just give one option and hope it works for everyone.

I do agree that the initial post about the pillowcase did not provide enough context to really understand how it went down, but the follow up did.

The conversation is straying way too far from helping the OP which is why it was posted in the first place. But it's going way off track and disagreement breaks out. Please be civil to one another folks, we don't condone any abusive treatment of any animals on here period! But I do understand there's treatments that's been done countless times with some disagreements. But if someone don't like your suggestions then keep them for yourself or discuss it in prvt. But please don't lash out at one another on here. It is a privilege for all of us here to discuss our beloved birds so don't abuse this privilege cause you will lose it. Abuse it you'll lose it!!!!
