Ospreyeagle, thanks for the pics! It's so nice to know that other people have very similar species to try and tell apart. We have the Australian Goshawk and the Collared Sparrowhawk, which are very difficult to tell apart unless they sit side by side and facing in the same direction. Same with the Whistling Kite and Little Eagle. I could watch birds of prey all day - they're fascinating!

No problem! I love raptors too! I love Australian birds as well. Can ID many Australian birds.

Maybe I could write up something about the difference between those species! (That's IF I can gather enough info). There's got to be some differences, lol.

Also, there are seven families of birds of prey! Falcons are more related to parrots than other birds of prey!

The hawks never go in my yard or even near it. I have 4 dogs so most wild life stays out. Even with that, I normally do not let my little chihuahua go out alone, I make her take the pitbull or heeler with her. LOL

Same in my backyard, anything that comes in don't leave alive except a lucky opossum that played dead when my partner dragged the dogs back inside the house. He left after they were in the house. The other opossum not so lucky as the dogs killed him. We're always afraid of the hawks around here getting to our chihuahua as well so the big dogs is always out with him as they deal with stuffs as a pack. I don't like my dogs killing the wildlife as I get quite upset with them doing so but for them protecting the little one I feel safer letting them out together.

Yes! (about the Falcons, I mean) We have a few aberrant species, including the Maned Goose (kind of duck) and the Freckled Duck (aberrant swan). The Goshawk and Sparrowhawk are quite different a) if you can get close enough to see them clearly and b) if they're sitting still, in the right light and side by side. Otherwise, in the field with foggy binoculars, not so much. LOL!

You should come to Australia! Our birds are great! They're colourful and plentiful and generally interesting and have great personalities. We have a few endangered species and many unique ones. Come for a visit: you won't be sorry!

Oh yes! I will come to Australia someday! Been wanting to go since I was really small. :0 Love the Spotted Catbird! Has to be my favourite Australian bird!

Letter-winged Kite comes in at a close second! They're nocturnal like owls! Sweet birds! <3
