Training is going well (I think!)

I've had my orange wing amazon, Rico, for about a month now and started target training him last weekend. At first he showed no interest in the target while in the cage. I went back to just clicker and treats for a few days and today he excitedly came out on his cage door. From there we tried the target again. After about 10 minutes he seemed to get it! I'm so happy for that. He bites the target a little harder than I'd like so I didn't reward him for those, but he got treats for the little touches on the target. He kept putting up his leg each time I gave him his treat and I think he'd like to come "up" on my hand but is still a little apprehensive so I didn't push it. I held my hand there for a little while and though he didn't lunge or scream at me like he did on previous attempts he just looked and looked. I think that's progress. Finally he went back into his cage and he got his pellets for dinner and seemed ready for sleepy time.

I hope he will trust me enough soon to actually step up. I can't wait for that considering the rocky start we had a few weeks ago.
