Nails still sharp

I've cut Merle's nails twice and filed them once and they are still sharp.

I don't see how I could cut any more off them, they aren't long.

How are they still sharp?

I find the problem is the curved shape. Whatever angle you cut you are leaving a sharp edge somewhere... I find Milo's nails seem just as sharp after a cut, no matter what I do, but settle within a couple of days as the new artificial sharp edge is lost on perches or natural preening.

Give it a few days after a clip and hopefully you'll find the same- cant promise, but a clipped edge beats a natural tapered sharp point any day!!

I used curved nail scissors, so maybe that's why they're still sharp.

I didn't just cut them today, I cut them a few weeks ago.

It's strange because they look fine.

I use a dremmel tool with a sandpaper barrel attachment on Larry's nails.
I got him used to the sound of the tool first by turning it on while I hold him in my hand. I did this for several days before attempting to sand his nails. His nails are nice and they don't hurt me

They will always wear sharp, as that's what they're designed to do. The keratin layer over the front (top) of the nail is much harder than the sofer underside...much like a rodents teeth.. So when they wear down, they wear down into a point. You can use a dremmel, and it will have a temporary dulling effect (or even a trimmer), but they always wear into points because that's what they're designed to do.

cement or pedi perches help a lot .
