So as most of you know Ill be getting my bird first/second week of October (asap). We just got a new woodstove. I forget the brand so Ill ask my mom when she gets home. I've read that the coating on new woodstoves can harm the bird until it burns off. I really dont wanna put off getting my bird again :( :( Please tell me its safe.

edit: Could a mod please change it to woodstoVes??

Fixed the spelling for ya. Don't know anything about the woodstove safety though.

If it was me i would go ahead and use it to burn off the new. I know it isn't cold enough to use it so just open the windows and doors. You will have to get it hot enough for it to smoke on the out side of it. That will be the toxic coming off of it. It would be much safer for your bird if you could do it before you bring it home. After that it should be just fine to use around your bird. Just try to keep him/her away from the smoke from the wood when you add more or check the fire.

I have an old wood burning stove and we burn about 20 hours a day, birds in the house. We replaced the piping last year that burns off the sort of oil coating (only took about 10 minutes to burn off), birds were in the same room, no problems. I'd contact the manufacturer and ask how long it takes for the coating to burn off. I'd just start using the stove and keep the bird in a separate room the first few days. (Contact the maker and ask what type of coating is on it.) Should be fine though :)
