Good morning, I'm new to the forum. I have several breeds of birds and last year acquired 2 pair of Rosella. One pair Pale head and one pair Opaline. Unfortunately I lost my male Pale head last winter. I had my 3 remaining birds together until the Opaline hen( I presumed) was very aggressive to the male..So much so she damaged one of the males claws..He was removed and is doing fine separated.. Now my questions. My pale head hen laid eggs and nested...However they never hatched.. I contacted another Rosella owner friend of mine and thinks I may have 2 Opaline males which would explain the aggression...I still think the Opaline in with the pale head is female because she seems smaller and not as vibrant in color... If I do in fact have a pair of Opaline can anyone shed some light why she would be aggressive to her mate? Also would a Rosella hen lay eggs that are infertile and still nest on them? Of course the Opaline could be male with my pale head hen and she was spooked somehow and allowed the eggs to fail... although she was on the nest like a mother.... Any assistance or insight is welcome.. Thanks Hank
