Junior is getting sudden shocks after every 30-45 minutes. I have taken him to vet doc he has diagnosed my parrot is scared of something and get cold but he is not sneezing. I am giving him the prescribed medicines for 2 days but he is not recovering yet. He has becomes very weak now. He is not even able to stand on his feet during the shock attacks which continues for round about 3 minutes. What to do?? Now he is not taking feed or medicines and lays down in his box.

Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.
Hi Abid

Are you from the subcontinent? Try giving him tea made out of holy basil. Boil the water, add a few tulsi (hb) leaves , let it cool and then let him drink. It is good for general health.

But I suggest you try to get in touch with a qualified vet through a video conference for long term cure. 40 days is really young. I presume he is a fledgling from the wild.

Best wishes.

cheers

Avin

was that a CERTIFIED AVIAN VET? If not then they are useless. Have they been eating food on their own? Have you been hand-feeding them? If they have been taking formula from you, you need to go back to a breeder NOW It sounds like they're aspirating or having a seizure of some sort not "fear"

Holy basil like suggested above wont work, your bird sounds like they're either starving, having a seizure, aspirating or worse. You need to get in contact with a vet trained to deal with birds, not a dog and cat vet.

http://www.parrotforums.com/breeding-raising-parrots/74363-so-you-bought-unweaned-baby.html read this you need to do a lot of things very fast to even have a chance of saving their life

Off course he was certified bird vet. I am feeding him kaytee feed suggested by the vet. Not opening eyes now just open eyes before 2-3 minutes of getting seizure

Good to hear you went to a true vet. Many people don't and just go to dog and cat vets

How long have you had him?
What is the temp of the food?
Have you been keeping him in a brooder?
Where you trained how to hand feed before taking him home?
What tests did the vet run?

I would go back to the vet today to get them to put him in a temperature controlled brooder and to give him medicine. Give them a call to tell them you're on your way and get down there immediately

I have him for 22 days. He stays in fanless environment and feed is suggested by the vet. Little cool feed is given to him

He needs a brooder with a constant temperature 24 hours a day. Baby birds cannot control their temperature that's why in a nest they either huddle together or move apart. formula MUST be between 104F and 110F otherwise it will either burn of too hot or not get digested if too cold.

Read that thread I linked it gives you all the info that you should have had but right now your bird is near death and could pass in hours, they need to be at a vet

Lord Triggs gives a very good link above. The information is from an experienced breeder who understands the matter and explains it very clearly.

If I understand you correctly ... a fanless environment is not the same as a brooder. A brooder can be made from any small enclosed space, like a fish tank or plastic box, it should be open at the top for air but maybe covered with a light towel to keep the warmth in. Soft cloth, paper towels, old towel or blanket with paper towel on top (so can easily be changed when dirty) on the bottom of the tank or box. A heating pad set on lowest heat underneath the brooder, just on half so the bird can move to where they are comfortable, but you have to check the temperature to be sure it's good.

The formula, you say "cool feed" but formula must be warm, to an exact temperature. We would have it in degrees F on this forum so you have to convert to degrees C maybe. There is a very narrow safe temperature range. If the formula is too cool, it can cause "crop stasis" where food is not digested and in fact digestion stops, and the food in the crop can ferment or become infected. If the food is too warm, it can kill the flesh of the crop and cause an actual hole to open, inside the bird or to the outside. The food must be heated, then stirred well to make sure there are no local hot areas, then check the temperature.

The idea is to feed the baby, and keep it at the proper temperature so it doesn't have to spend any energy trying to warm or cool itself, and all the energy can go to healing. If there are seizures, this could be related to a brain injury or some poison to the nervous system, or some defect of birth. They are very serious. But it's hard to treat them. The best you can do is to keep the baby warm and properly fed, and leave the treatment of seizure to the vet, but it doesn't sound like your vet understands what is causing them, or maybe isn't explaining it right.

When we say "certified avian vet" we are speaking of additional training that a regular vet takes, in addition to the normal degree in veterinary medicine. For this they receive an additional certificate and are listed in the official directory of avian vets. A vet can have a lot of experience with birds but not be officially certified. You can check the list here: Association of Avian Veterinarians

It includes a field to search by country for international vets, not just ones in the USA.

Do you know if your bird had a fall that might have hurt his neck or back? After you feed him, does the crop get small again in a short time, or does it stay full all the time?

Please don't hesitate to give us details, and pictures or videos if you can, and the experienced people will help as much as they can. I have never raised birds, so I just give you information I've learned from other people here. The people here are very experienced and we care about your baby parrot. I hope things improve for him soon.

sorry for the late reply, I hope you managed to get him to a vet. the wanting to be with you is because he's cold, they cannot regulate temperature until they are fully feathered which is why the brooder is required
