Long Term Boarding

Anyone know a good place to board a parrot long-term (8 months)? I'm trying to see if a friend I trust who is experienced with birds can watch her, but if that doesn't work out I'm looking for a place that routinely boards birds (I don't want to find a stranger on craigslist or something).

I usually board with my vet for short trips, but their price is too high (4k+) and so I'm looking around. I found a couple of places (Gabriel foundation in Denver and Miss Vicky's in Georgia) but both have been unresponsive when I reached out to them. I live in Texas, but can drive to most places in the southeast, south central or southwest to meet the people, see the place and drop her off.

Where in Texas? What I would do if I was you is contact your local bird club and talk to someone on the board or to their president and ask for a long-term, reliable member that might be willing to help you. Ensure that your bird is current on health testing (and if you board her already you probably are accustomed to having to do that to board at reputable places) and also ensure that the place you're leaving her has a tested flock, as well. Then I'd draw up a contract you both sign clearly outlining the agreement. Good luck!
