Ducky, my green cheek

Rack, Shack & Benny, my budgies
Hi everyone! I have an adorable little green cheek that I brought home about 2 months ago. Ducky and I were instant friends from the moment I saw her. She loves to be with me and when I'm home, we eat together, watch tv together and when I'm doing things around the house like feeding the cat or cleaning the budgie cages, she climbs all over me like a little monkey. She loves to sit with me while I'm at the computer. She has made a game of stealing the keys off of my keyboard, and I have to chase her to get them back.

The ONLY thing I am having a very difficult thing with is this.... when I first brought her home, she would make this shrill high pitched whistle every once in a while. It sounds like when your smoke alarm battery is dead....except longer and more shrill. I didn't do anything to discourage it because she didn't do it often, and I thought it was cute. She would only do it when she was puffed up, and everybody knows there's nothing cuter than a puffed up conure!

But now, she does it ALL the time. I think the trigger is when I do something that gets her excited or upset (ie...when I'm getting ready to go somewhere, taking a shower, putting on clothes, putting on my jewelry & shoes). And also every morning at exactly 7am when it's time to get up, even though her cage is completely covered with a thick black blanket. "mom, get uuuupppp!!! SHREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!" Over and over and over. I don't even need an alarm clock anymore.

In the morning, I let her out for about 45 minutes to hang on me while I feed the other animals and eat breakfast, then I put her away before I get into the shower. She shrieks when she hears the water running. But this morning I tried covering her before I into the shower and closed the bedroom and bathroom door. But there she was, shrieking away under the blanket. For about a week I would cover her up when she shrieked, then uncover her about 10 minutes later when she quieted down. And I give her a treat. But that hasn't helped either. She's very smart, when she's covered, she hears me come into the room and leave the room because of the floor boards creaking. She knows what the dresser sounds like when I open and close the doors to pull my clothes out.

That shriek is driving me completely bonkers! It makes my eardrums feel like they're going to burst! I do not want to lose my cool! :(

Can I change this behavior?? Unfortunately, I am in a small condo and only have 2 rooms - a living room and a bedroom, so putting her in a place where she can't see or hear what I"m doing to get ready in the morning isn't really an option. And on Saturday mornings when I want to sleep past 7am... I just don't have that luxury anymore... I wish she would take advice from the budgies. They don't make a peep when they are covered.

Is there honestly anything I can do or am I just stuck?

My Fiji does this same thing, waking up every morning between 6 and 7. His shriek sounds like, "EEEEEEEEEEEE-EEEEEEEEEEE!" I have to bring him into the bathroom with me, when I take a shower! i put a bowl of water on the counter, so he can take a bath too. The shrieking bothers my hubby more than me, but it's still annoying. I don't know what the answer is, MissBMonkey. I hope someone has some advice! oh, and i AGREE, nothing cuter than a puffed up conure! :D
