Hey all,
I've loved birds ever since I was a little girl. I had the companionship of a feisty little budgie, Newton, during my high school years who also became a momma to quite a few young budgie babies. I gave most of them away and kept two. One of the babies passed away a few years later and Newton died of cancer. I still have Congo, a grey budgie who enjoys spending his days chirping away. Unfortunately, he's always been very skittish and isn't tame despite a lot of handling when young. But that's alright, I respect his boundaries!
About a week ago, my husband and I adopted a 4 year old male green cheek conure. He's a delightful little guy who, I think, has taken to me quite rapidly. He's still getting used to his surroundings which include two large black labs. I think he has a particular interest in our younger female dog. I think he thinks he's bigger than he is.
He's been in two homes before ours and I told him that he's here to stay. This is his forever home. I purchase a large new cage for him, with a playtop and he's still getting used to it. He was in such a tiny, rusty old cage before that I'm glad he has more room. Our budgie seems to love having another bird around. He's much more vocal.
I used to be part of some budgerigar forums back in the day but stopped frequenting them when Newton died. Her death hit me hard. I've decided to get involved in forums again. I also wanted to re-subscribe to BirdTalk but realize it's no longer in print *gasp*. Does anyone know if there are any similar magazines available still?
Anyhow, cheers! And looking forward to being a part of things here
