My Greta trys real hard. She says HELLO deep in her throat [sounds like a bullfrog LOL ].Sammy can say Sammy ,Hello and How are you [which I think is pretty good for a Caique. They both mimic sounds . I get asked if my birds can talk [all but one] . I always think its neat birds can say things . But I love the Interaction I have with my Caiques .They respond every time I talk to them . :)

I think Onyx /might/ say "step up", but I'm not sure. I know she does a lot of "evil" sounding whispery-mumbly stuff that I cannot understand, haha.

Chase says "hi" "hi pretty bird" and "good baby" but that's all I can recognize. I feel like a parent with a toddler, other people can hear him and almost tell what he says, I have to interpret for them. :)

Eliza -- Black Headed Caique
Henry -- White-Bellied Caique
I can hear Eliza trying to say "sweetie-girl," and some other words here and there, but I doubt anyone else would recognize it!

Both Eliza and Henry imitate noises fairly well. For example, thanks to one mistake on my part (and all it took was one!), Eliza has the smoke alarm sound down quite accurately. It's sorta disconcerting to hear it when I'm the shower...

And I'm sure everyone's experienced this, but it's new to me now that I have two birds: They're starting to imitate each other. Just yesterday, I was in the laundry room when I heard Eliza make her plaintive "Where the heck ARE you?!" call. I called out "It's okay, sweetie-girl, I'm in here!" As soon as I said that, I heard a noise at my feet, and realized she was with me the whole time, and in fact the call came from Henry who was in his cage at the time.

One noise Eliza makes (and I SWEAR to you all, she didn't learn it from me!) is a wolf-whistle. Unfortunately, she generally uses it to alert me that someone is outside. Several months ago, I was in my office at the computer, and a woman who lives a few houses away jogged by.

Eliza was at the window, of course, and proceeded to let out a 200 decibel wolf-whistle. I suspect it must have looked pretty lame when she turned to see where the whistle came from, and saw me in the window, pointing to Eliza and mouthing the words "It was the bird! It was the bird! Really!"

I will say there's a positive side to it, though. When I get up in the morning, and stagger out, in my robe, bleary-eyed, with uncombed hair and the overnight beard, to the kitchen to make coffee, Eliza will see me, and sometimes do her wolf-whistle.

It's strangely satisfying, somehow.

Yes, go ahead: Call me shallow. Call me vain. You'll get no argument from me! :D

Mine can say "good boy" quite clearly. Also "theres a good boy" and "good birdy" but not so much.

Not particularly clear but does a good enough job!

He does my phone alarm that goes off every morning perfectly though.... can become annoying lol.

He likes immitating the noise of doors shutting... like the clicking or the magnets when then click onto the door of my wardrobe.

My caique, Feisty, can say her name and "step up". There are times when it sounds like she is talking but I can't quite make out what she is trying to say.

My guess is that she's saying "HEY! HUMAN! How come you didn't step up like I told you to do?!"

How long did it take your caiques to learn to talk? Mine is only about 4 1/2 months old, and she doesn't say or mimic anything. She does whistle a lot, though. :D
