My mom is working in New Orleans, and she's going to be in her apt all alone during Isaac. So any thoughts or prayers you can send her way and the rest of the people of my old hometown would be great.

Hoping and praying for the best. I still have the house sandbagged and everything hurricane ready here south of Tampa. Plan on leaving it that way, things are still pretty active.Bet we get another before winter.

Probably true. It gets busier with the storms in August and Sept. My friend keeps hoping they'll get to the "L"'s because her name is on the list this year.

Having been raised on the coast of Tx and living there for 30+ years, I know what it's like. During all those years, I've only run from a hurricane once (and I WAS right), I actually stood in the eye of Alicia when it hit, that is one of the eeriest things I've ever seen!!! The wife wasn't used to the Tx coast at the time, she asked me how would I know to leave, I just explained I'd been thru enough of them to know what to look for. When I saw Ike coming, I knew! We lived 1 block from the water at that time, we lost everything we didn't take with us (went to Dallas) just a sample of what we came home to.... Best of luck to you and yours Barkley!

Barkley, I have your Mum and all of NO in my thoughts. We drove across the southern part of the country about a year after Katrina, bringing the car inherited from my father from FL to CA, and we went along the coast and into the city for a couple of nights. I'd lived through a lot of hurricanes growing up in Florida, but never saw anything like the devastation in New Orleans. Bourbon Street was just coming back to life then. I sure hope the levee improvements do what they are supposed to.

I am confident the government will be more responsive this time if there is significant damage.

Thanks! Supposedly FEMA has stations already set up in some areas. Not like Katrina where no one was prepared. This one shouldn't be too bad, just mainly flooding since it's supposed to move slowly and dump a ton of rain.
