Hello bird people!
Ever since we got our GCC home, we've been noticing her being a bit clumsy on her feet. Upon a closer look, we've noticed that her primary digits, the shortest toe of her back toes on each of her feet, seem a bit off. They look a little too short, and the nails on these...
My young cockatiel has very sharp nails even if we trim the tips every couple weeks. I have clipped the quick a couple times and it is very traumatic. I do have a few rough perches in her cage but they don’t seem to help. She is around 6 months old. Any ideas?
about an hour ago i noticed one of my conures nails looks brown. he is 3 years old (4 in march). never had nails trimmed. what could this mean, does he need to see the vet asap? he is being his normal self, and ive never had any concerns about him previously
UPDATE: just saw in an older photo...
So I’ve been doing nail filing training with Maui and he’s doing great. Got used to the feel and sound of the file on his nails, and learnt a command for giving me his foot really quickly.
Although, his nails are growing super quickly. I had just got them down to a manageable length, then we...
Hey everyone, I tried to cut my bird's nails last night and I accidentally cut the first one too short, it bled, I stopped the bleeding and it didn't reoccur.
However, today the bird was sleepy all day, didn't make a sound, and it's twitching its wings or its entire body sometimes in a weird...
A year ago, I brought in an Alexandrine parakeet. I went to the place where the "breeders" were keeping her, and my heart just BROKE. She was a year old already, and they were still housing her in the same cage as her mom and dad, and the mom was nesting. The poor thing kept trying to go into...
My Senegal has been chewing on his little nail. At first I thought maybe there was something stuck in it but then I noticed he just recently started chewing on cloth things. Maybe it's his beak, then? Also, he frequently has been shaking (or, wagging kinda) his tail. He is only 2 years old.
Why...
Hi,
How are ye all, My conure Rio is coming up on 3 months on April 6th. I notice has nails are getting alone and I read online around putting sand paper in there cage for there beak and nails to keep them shortened. Is it a good idea to put sand in the bottom of his cage. At present I have...
I just had his nails filed at the vet's office about 2 weeks ago and she could barely take off any of the nail length due to how far out his quick is on all of the nails..
Does anyone have an insight on why it's not receding? Any tips would be much appreciated. :green:
OK, I had the idea to make a thread where everyone can post a certain rule they teach their parrot(s). You can repeat other rules for emphasis, or post something different. They idea is to have a list of things we think help our relationships with our birds, so we can learn from each other.
One...
Is it safe to paint a parrot's nails?
I painted one claw (of our Blue Crowned Conure) without really thinking about it... X( I held him for a while and made sure it was dry before leaving the room, and I've checked on him and he doesn't seem to be picking at it. And I did it quickly in a...
Hi everyone! I own a Nanday named Pepper who came from a pet store originally, but now lives with me after his previous owner said he was too noisy to live in their apartment. He wasn't handled much in the pet store so he is just now getting used to people at around ten months. I don't know if...
