A reminder of how quickly we can lose our beloved fids

Bumping this thread for justice. I am angry that the 15 year old scum was released back to his parent's custody. Over 7,000 petitions now but I can see the publicity and momentum slowing down. I continue to reblog and share the petition site . We need more people to pitch in.

Can a moderator possibly move this thread to a section with higher traffic? More people need to know about Ozzi's story. It affects us all in the avian community.

Here is the latest news about Ozzi:

Three teens arrested in death of parrot

BoomBoom, there is no need to move it to a different forum as it gets bumped back to the active topics page when a new post is made.

Boom, does PETA have the story yet?

i just read about this today in the paper, can't believe how late i got the news.
I don't come often to this topic,i already shared the petition on fb.
I really wish they would make an example of those kids, just kill them, people like that should have no place in the world.

I don't cry much, but reading the latest news made my eyes sweat a little. People calling out for justice from all over the world, united over the senseless suffering of a parrot they never even knew. Almost 10,000 petitions now addressed to Mayor Tyler Warman and Slave Lake.

Boomer's blog (http://technicolorchicken.tumblr.co...tortured-and-killed-for-fun-sign-petition-for) may only have 231 followers, but I am happy to say that my post about Ozzi's story and the petition site has now garnered at least 50 re-blogs. Re-blogging means people not only read my post, but they decided to publish it on their blogs. This allows their own group of followers to read it, and in turn re-blog it on their own sites and their followers, etc, etc. This means loads more people who do not follow me, got to know about Ozzi and the petition site through my post by means of a chain reaction. So really, in my own little way, I have shared Ozzi's story to more than 231 people. That makes me happy that Boomer's blog has served some kind of purpose.

Never underestimate the power of sharing a story, especially online. Many people might skim through it, but you may get that one crazy person who will spread the story like a wild fire. That's what Terry's thread on this forum did for me. Let's see the murderers be held accountable for their actions! Share Ozzi's story to everyone you know! If not for the petition, at least for the awareness it creates outside of the avian community.

PS. For those just joining this thread, here is the petition site:http://www.thepetitionsite.com/132/180/348/justice-for-ozzi/

I'm not sure they do. I think it's only a matter of time. I don't know what to make of PETA these days so I will refrain from contacting them just yet (besides the fact that I do not know of an effective way to do it).

Bumping for justice. If anyone has time, please sign petition or share petition site to people you know. Thanks.

PETA would be thrilled to see ALL our companion animals banned from being kept as pets, their real motives are quite scary for anyone who loves and wants to share their home with animals.:(

How is the punishment for these charges determined?

BoomBoom...there is a set max sentence for these things that I read somewhere earlier, and of course it is not nearly as harsh as we think it should be.

Bump.

It's great to hear about all the outpouring of love and support for Ozzi's family from around the world.

Boom Boom is right, it's important to keep the story spreading.

Bump.

Almost 11,000 petitions now. Has anyone watched the video of the owner when he was calling out in the woods for Ozzi? The sadness and desperation in his voice was gut-wrenching.

Ok, here's what I heard from a couple I'm friends with (Windsor) who have a summer home in the slave lake area. (I'm 30 minutes from the border). They told me that this was racially motivated as well....adding yet another ugly layer to an unbearable story. They also said it's being downplayed because there are minors involved. I don't think it should be downplayed at all, but brought to light. The more I try not to think of this story, the more it haunts me.

I've suspected the race thing when I read the man's last name. Just when you thought it could not get uglier.

AND, because of some stupid laws, the minors are protected from having their names published. Yeah... that makes a lot of sense, keep deranged criminals safe and hidden from the public. Protect the perps, screw potential victims. Our society is so backwards sometimes.

How is the punishment for these charges determined?

Unfortunately, the punishment will be next to nothing, as they are minors. This is a first offense for the primary suspect. He will most assuredly receive probation and his parents face fines. Hopefully, Ozzi's parents will sue.
You know, with criminals, the first crime is usually stealing, smoking pot, etcetera. If this is the suspect's first crime, what will be the next...a baby? This is a violent, predatory "first crime"!

Ugh. How disappointing. Now I understand why people turn to vigilantism. I doubt the owners will sue. They've already asked the public not to harass the murderers.

That's how Jeffrey Dahmer got started, along with so many other serial killers and rapists.

Probably under the advisement of their attorney. Once a conviction is filed, they can sue. They've most likely been advised to play it cool for now. But either way it won't bring the poor bird back. I've always been of the mindset that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and that the parents had a large role in shaping the sickness within this kid(s). I hope they all get sued. And truthfully, in my heart of hearts, I hope those human filth are run over by a Mack truck.
