After 25 years and a 12.5 hour drive, I have an Eclectus!!

I am soooooooo happy for you! What a handsome guy Ekko is! Eclectus are generally quiet and still in new environments--in time he'll be a busy little guy checking out everything. All I can say is have a blast with him!!!

Congratulations!!! I'm glad everything went well and everyone's home safe and sound! :D

Ekko is settling in very well..he had kale for the first time yesterday and went crazy for it:) I have been letting him out of his cage and giving him time to adjust, and last night he made his way to me for me to hold. What a wonderful moment! He seems quite happy and is very interested in all the other birds, and I think Dar (our hawkhead) has a crush on him. She stands on her cage and says to him ,"hey Pretty Bird...Hello, Hi you".
He has spoken a little, but is still very quiet. I think he is still figuring everything out.

I'm amazed your birds eat kale! I planted heaps last winter (over in inland eastern part of Oz) as it was one of the few things that would grow well through the winter frosts- and none of my birds would eat more than a bite or two! I may try it again next winter as although I'm now in sub-tropics, and no frosts, still can't get much to grow apart from peas, spinach and choy sum/bok choy (which the birds relish, admittedly). It would be nice to have some now, in fact, one cockatiel pair have bred again (6 this time) and go through lots of greens, kale is so prolific it would be useful- but won't grow here in late spring/early summer.

Even my little guys like it, as long as I put a big leaf on the cage. I was tearing it up and adding to their veggie bowl, but the whole leaf seems to work better for them:) I had no idea that it grows when it's cold! I will have to do some investigating about planting some myself!

Congrads on Ekko , you will love having a Eckie around , Shamrock is our Velcro bird lol he wants to be with you no matter where you are and he can definitely get a little loud at times , right now he is trying to whistle , I think he picked that up from Smokey , he will be 6 months old the 13th and he talks , he says , Hello , Peek a boo , what ya doing
how old is Ekko?

Ha, your cold is COLD compared to ours :) I whinged about having hard frosts, -6 to -8C, with 15 or even 20C during the day.... But the kale enjoyed those conditions, and bolted in spring.

There are some decorative varities as well, look good amongst flowers, but the bugs love them like all the brassica.

Yea, I think it may be too cold here in the winter to grow it here (we wouldn't even be able to find it under the snow:(

Ekko also whistles every morning so far, some kind of spooky sort of whistle..lol. I am so in love with him already:)

Yay!!!! You got him home!!! Congrats, he's a handsome fella!!! ;)

He is very beautiful. Congratulation!

He's stunning! I understand only too well how long the wait is to get our ekkie, and oh so worth it! Congratulations!
