Mochi - quaker
Dipper - green cheek conure
Hi everyone,

I have a energetic quaker named Mochi who's 4 years old. I've been extra anxious since one of my other parrots passed away, and so when I noticed Mochi's lower beak was darker I started searching everywhere what it could mean.

I have a vet appointment next week, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone would know if this looks concerning?

I Did notice her droppings have been half light brown or green and half white (she's always favoured the green pellets). She's still quite active and eating, and her diet's been mostly pellets, carrot, corn, and peas. Recently I've been prompting her to eat her cuttlebone too.

Thanks everyone, I hope it's me over-thinking things, but better to be safe than sorry!

I’m not a veterinarian in any way.
But beaks are like fingernails somewhat and like when you hit your fingernail with a hammer it turns black because of blood underneath the nail.
I understand a similar thing can happen with bird beaks like flying into a window or something.
I don’t know what the cause is but it’s possible like a bruise from some injury or excessive force biting on something really hard like the cage bars.

Just my best guess here. Check with your Avian veterinarian to be sure.

That could be the case. There was one time a few weeks ago when she got shocked and flew into my mirror... ever since I've kept the windows and mirrors covered just in case but it could be dried blood from back then. I also tried to gently massage it and see if she didn't like it being touched, but she didn't mind at all. In any case, I'll see what the vet says.

Thanks for your input!

Over thinking about our feathered companions is best. They can change so fast. A vet's advice helps.

Mochi is ADORABLE!
His beak looks normal to me but better to get a vet to reassure you
Hehe she is! But yes I'll definitely get the vet to have a look. Thanks for taking a look too!

That's true! It's so hard to tell as well when they hide their symptoms. They're such delicate creatures (even when their bites are super strong).

The vet had a look and confirmed her beak's healthy as well everything else. The dark part seemed spread out naturally and wasn't too dark for concerns. I'm so relieved :D
