Congo African Grey Female "GreyCee" 4 Months old
Hi

This evening Greycee climbed to the bottom of her cage and went to sleep in the corner, this is the first time since I brought her home that she has done this.
Is this normal? I've tried moving her to her perch but she just climbs down again, I'm a little worried because she wont eat her formula but eats seed/pellet mix, fresh fruit & veg and some egg and shell.

She was scratching and tearing the newspaper in the bottom of her cage before she went to sleep. I hope she is not sick or under feed:02::smiley2:

Is she lethargic at all? Fluffed up feathers? Poop look ok? Did she fill her crop with the other foods before bed or go to sleep hungry? If she hasn't been eating a lot i would be worried, if she ate her fill see how she's doing to tomorrow, if she tries sleeping on the bottom again or still refuses formula I would bring her to the vet.

If it turns out she just likes sleeping on the bottom you should buy her a platform perch.

She does not look lethargic
she does not really fluff her feathers she does shake her feathers and cleans her wings and tail.
Her stool is green and white not to runny
I don't thin she filled her crop because she ate on her pellets for a couple of minutes.
I'll check with the breeder tomorrow and then have a chat to the vet.
Thanks

How old is Greycee? My patty does this when she is ready to drop an egg...I don't have nestboxes in any of their cages, so aii the hens will go to the cage bottom to lay.....I just had one of the suns lay her eggs on the newspapers, but my patty is the only one to sleep on the newspapers when she's getting ready to lay.....

I think GreyCee is a newly homed baby. I would do as Copperarabian says, watch her poop, make sure she is eating and active during the day and put in a call to the breeder to see if this could be a normal thing for her babies. If you have any worries after that make a vet appointment.

I covered her and turned the light off at 7 for bed time and when I went to check on her at 7:30 she was sleeping on the top perch were she normally goes to sleep.

:D

I think I'm just like a new mom with a new baby

That's a good update! i'm glad to hear she isn't still on the bottom.

African Greys can have the instinct to be foraging ground feeders some of the time.My Max gets on the bottem of his cage and tears up newspaper and scratches like a chicken . Maybe yours was doing this and got tired.:)

When Neytiri was young she scared me when I saw her on the web cam on the floor of her cages. Turns out she was playing really hard and just fell asleep there. Perhaps your little one fell and is scared to slee higher.

Glad to hear shes eating this morning and eventually went back to her perch. Parrots can occasionally do some strange things that leave their owners worried sick about them, and don't worry, it's not just you :-) Maybe she just tired herself out playing on the floor, and went to sleep right then and there. Just keep your eye on her the next few days for any signs of illness, but it sounds like a one off situation to me.
