I'm getting a green cheek soon, I wanted to know the size of cage I should get for him because, like my budgie, he'll have free reign of the house and his cage will be open all the time, so what size should I get for him? Also, any pointers for a Conure beginner like me would be nice.

The biggest you can get. 18x24x30 or 24x24x30 18x18x24 it depends. The flight cages are nice.
Watch out my conure would try and nip my parakeets I don't let them out together any more. I did a few time but we had too many close calls. Maybe now he will be better I caught him on the parakeets cage yesterday.

Hello, I am also a conure novice, I just got a Black Capped Conure last week, which is the same size as a Green Cheek Conure. For my bird, I bought the cage in the link below. I got the tan color. It's perfect size for my bird and his toys. I really like how it looks, it's pretty and fits in with my decor nicely. It also was easy to assemble. There are several opening on the top, so it's easy access for the bird to get in and out. I feel like my bird is safe in there.

Just a word of caution... open top cages like that can pose a hazard from inside or outside of the cage....
Some of the larger species have managed to open the top of the cage from the inside, however, end up getting stuck, never being able to get anything more than their head past the top.... I've heard more sad stories than I cared to hear...
From the outside, some of these doors are easy enough to knock closed, even with a perch "wedged" between the openings. If a bird is sitting on that perch and decides to take off, but can't fly, there could be potential danger there, too...

I've had my 3.5mo-old pineapple GCC for almost a week and we use this cage:

The space is adequate, and for now she spends most of her time inside. I'm working to transition her into exiting the cage more often with apartment tours every few hours to pique her curiosity.
This is the cage as of this morning:
Three perches, three toys, cuttlebone and beak stone above the food and water bowls. Space is adequate like I said, but seems a little crowded. In particular she exercises every few hours by rapidly flapping her wings in place, and I can tell she's cautious about hitting anything that's in the cage when she does this.
I believe the next size Prevue cage (24 x 20 x 60) would be perfect and am planning to get it in around a year.
As far as tips for a new owner, from one to another:
- Don't force your bird to do anything at the outset. Grabbing it to pet it, or grabbing it to move it around will likely lead to a bitey bird. I know this from experience having owned budgies as a child. Conures I consider a fair bit more intelligent, or at least significantly more human-relateable, than budgies, which means they respond well if you learn to respect them as another intelligent being sharing your home.
- Teaching to step up by command or by context (my bird, Auri, attempts to step up whenever an outstretched finger is near her, and this morning attempted to step up on fingers that were handing her a treat from outside the cage, going for the fingers before noticing the treat!) will be the fastest way to your bird's heart. There are many online resources that detail many ways of teaching the step-up to birds having a variety of personalities, so I recommend finding which one fits your situation best and using that as a starting point.

Bigger is always better, and always consider bar spacing when purchasing your cage. I don't advise going any larger than 3/4" (even that can be too big, but my conure manages). The cage I have is this one:

Personally I adore it. I find it's just the right size for her, where she has plenty of room to move, scale up the sides, and I can fit lots of toys and a variety of branches. I prefer dome tops because I cover my cages at night and because I find inside cage space is far more important than having another play area outside of the cage.

It's not necessarily the best quality (bars are flimsier than the nicer ones people have been posting) but I love how spacious it is. I wouldn't recommend it for anything larger than a cockateil or conure just because the build quality isn't like the higher-end brands, but still a great option for a green cheek. Good luck !

Remember conures use their beaks to check if what they're stepping up on is sturdy enough to hold them so they aren't really "biting", & they use their beaks to climb. Since acquiring my gcc a yr ago, I've read that they can be biters so be prepared to get bites. If yours isn't really much of a biter, wonderful. Mine will bite but I've gotten used to it but also, I've learned to watch his body language & am really trying to remember to let him know before hand when I intend to get my hand near him as not to startle him which does make them bite. One thing, if you or anyone is going to try picking him up (having him "step up", don't put your finger near him/her, pull your finger back, being afraid you'll get bit. That's a tease which is asking to be bit. My daughter used to enjoy my bird but since she got bitten quite awhile ago, is afraid to let him near her.
I really love my gcc & it makes me sad that no one else really sees him as the funny, loveable little guy that he is. Especially when I have him in the bathtub. Oh my gosh, he's such a clown! I always keep one hand in the water-he will hold onto one of my fingers while he flutters in the water (possibly to keep from slipping?). I wear a shirt (that my birds can poop on, protecting my 'real' clothes underneath) and he will run up and down, hopping from one arm to the next, peeking up my sleeve, etc. He's really a joy to have. Like any pet, you have to get used to one another. Just be patient; it's worth it.

Most of the people recommend Prevue Pet, but, the cages can go up to $500 CAD (tax in), which would be about $200 CAD more to 2nd cage i listed in my post.
What do you guys think? I believe this cage ( Medium Parrot Bird Cage Canada | Littlewhiskers | ) should provide a tons of room for a single GCC, i believe its good quality (Its made in Canada, and pretty good warranty, so, i think even if i need some parts replaced in future, i shouldn't have any issues getting them).

I found a conure cage for 99 at petco. It's really large, Mochi has plenty of space in there to spread his wings and the top opens up and it comes with a perch so he can hang out as well.
