Conure in kitchen - safe or not?

Like sunnyclover Clark is respectful of the kitchen, it's his least favorite room, even though thats where the food is.

I've often say gotten a pizza out of the oven and he through his DNA it seams knows pizza is good, but he's never tried to get it till it's on the plate in the eating area. Never tried to jump off and get it on the baking sheet I mean. But i'm always WAY SUPER ON GUARD when there is a danger about so I can catch him if I need to.

You might try pretending to cook, pretending to bake, pretending to whatever...just to see what you bird does in a safe condition.

To be honest I would just cage Rio whenever I was cooking food just as I never knew what he would do. Plus he was terrible for trying to steal my food so he had to be in the cage having his own dinner

I don't mind a little food larceny from my bird, I just make sure he doesn't eat anything bad for him. Keeps him as you brits say..."a cheeky fellow".

the problem wasn't larceny, was a large scale battle to stop him getting at my beef stew!

Peanut's favorite place is in the kitchen, but I don't have her in there when I'm cooking on the stove obviously. She's a little busy body and feels she should be involved with everything including the food on your plate.

Question: Is a "Velcro bird" a bird that always wants to be on you or a bird that just always wants to be near you? I thought it was a bird that literally wants to always be on you. Sorry about the tangent.

It can actually refer to either. Though I personally would not encourage (nor allow) Skittles to be "on" me all day- that can lead to aggression and territorial behavior. But he just likes to be near me as much as possible. In order to allow him to do that AND prevent any 'territorial aggression', I have little "playstands" as well as perch areas all around the house so that way wherever I go, there is a "safe" place for him to 'hang out' and be near me.
