Long time no see parrot forms, Pikachu the GCC is now seven years old and still a sassy bugger.
I'm coming to you today because about an hour ago, she stole a small plastic jewel stud off of my shirt, about half the size of her pellets (She is on Harrisons fine pellets) and most likely swallowed it while I was fighting with her to get it out of her beak. She was very insistent on keeping it tucked in the hook of her beak and I did not see her spit it out.
I've since called the nearest Emergency Vet for advice (which is about two hours away, all of the local vets are closed today) and they told me to keep an eye on her for the time being and see if she will regurgitate it from her crop on her own if she swallowed it.
Right now she is acting just fine and is eating her pellets. I might have to wait a bit longer to see if there's any significant changes. But, in the meantime I wanted to know if anyone had any advice, and/or if anyone has dealt with something like this before where they were pretty certain that their bird consumed a small piece of plastic. I've looked everywhere for the jewel stud and haven't found it.
Also: I have pitched the shirt she stole the stud off of!

Has she exhibited any signs of distress at all? My lorikeet Lovejoy had what I could only describe as a choking incident a while back, he was highly distressed and making some awful noises, looking like he was trying to cough something up and acting like he couldn't breathe so I was sure he had got hold of a foreign object and tried to eat it. Naturally it was after his regular avian vet had closed for the day so we took him to an emergency vet abou 45 mins drive away, by which time his breathing had returned pretty much to normal. We thought he had swallowed or spat out whatever it was that had got stuck and the after-hours vet couldn't do much for him. He was fine overnight but we took him to his regular vet the next morning anyway, they did a blood test to see if there was anything metallic in his system - my suspicion was he'd got hold of a tiny crystal that might've fallen off one of my kaftans, they have a metal backing that might show up in a blood test, but they found nothing. Happily for us they found nothing and he has been perfectly fine since, thank goodness, so perhaps he had just got hold of one of my cockatiel's pellets and that was what had got stuck. But it frightened the life out of me so I'm hoping that your little one did spit that stud out and that she'll be ok!
