Hello! I'm new to this site and hopefully I'll soon be new-ish to GCC ownership as well.

I plan on moving in with a family member next year for college. She has never had any experience with birds outside of poultry. I'm writing a small rundown of what living with a conure would be like and I can't find any websites or articles online about living with but not owning one. I need help on how to explain to her what it'll be like with that situation! I won't be very new to bird ownership myself, and am doing as much research as I can to prepare myself further.

Currently, I plan to keep the bird in my room. I'll be covering her at night and for part of the morning/evening on a loose schedule. When the house is awake, I'll have the cage open and will let her roam my room and the rooms that I'll be in. I understand and know the risks of the everyday household and plan on also explaining what may need to change (ie. Cookware, ceiling fans, houseplants, etc.) and am planning on checking things myself when we go to visit next in January. I'm also going to introduce her to my family and make sure they are present in her life so that they can care for her when I'm gone for extended periods of time.

Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can give me some advice on this. I appreciate it so much!!!!

Any reason you are starting with a conure for your first bird? Of all the conures a GCC is probably “easiest” from that standpoint but just don’t want you to bite off more than you can chew as a college student.

I have the most experience with them! I'm sure that they're a responsibility I can take on as a student. I'm planning on being mainly online with classes to save gas. Thank you though!

oh apologies, I misread your post as you were a new bird owner....doesn't sound like that is the case.

I wish you all the best then! Good luck with classes!
