RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Talked to him last night, said he "rolled"{ out of bed TWICE while in hospital. WHY didn't they raise those side bars??? He is suppose to be released today,I told him he needs to talk to the rehab people who threw him out. He also said he saw the Doc who did the initial procedure on his leg and the Doc told him "lets talk about amputation" He could very well loose his whole foot it's not healing.

Jim
Wow Jim, you and David need an advocate and clear understanding of overall situation and prognosis. I'd imagine a foot that is not healing properly needs a lot of highly skilled attention.

Yes, both of you need an Advocate!! They have to supply such an individual when you make the request. Your Brother also needs a 'Wound Specialist' as part of his Medical team. Wound care is a specialty that commonly has be be requested.

NOTE: I was in for my back and separately for my hip surgery, I was automatically classified as a Fall Hazard and that required that the side guards where set-up and I was wired to the system that if I lifted beyond a very specific point, the alarms when off!! Kind of like a prisoner escape thing!

Hospital is being very sloppy!! I asked Julio and he stated that you likely have a legal claim. Best to scare them that "you know" they are not following their Patient Fall Protocols!! And, that it better not happen again!!

Well some good news..He is back at the rehab place. His neurologist saw him yesterday. Dave also has issues with his back and was getting "nerve blocker" shots that really didn't do much and was put on mild pain killers (percocet) which kinda helped and now with the foot thing it was changed to 20mg morphine tablets and the doc thinks the tablets are causing is passing out issues.

David told me he thought about that and said after taking the meds he found it difficult to sleep, having bizzar dreams and brain fog and not really knowing what day or time it was.

I recall years ago when a woman turned directly in front of me while riding my motorcycle I couldnt stop and hit her doing 40mph and got seriously injured with a double compound fracture to my leg..a month in hospital a month in rehab and ten months recooping at home.
The doc had me on 20mg Oxycodone for a long time and I also had similar side effects as David is having. Being off those now for years I'm fine.
So the Doc took him off the morphine. He knows David is in a lot of pain with his foot and told him he just might have to man up and deal with it.

Oh, Jim! Please give David my best. Prayers for you both heading your way, my friend. 🙏
One small thought... Talk to his doctor about the pain meds! 20mg morphine, or man up with nothing? That's absolutely ridiculous. There's a vast world of other meds in varying strengths that may be the best balance of pain management vs side effects for him.

It is interesting to read this post from the beginning, back in 2020. And now, here it is 2022. I read recently that nearly 50% of hospital "Covid-19" patients were admitted for things like auto accidents, home accidents, or other non-covid related issues, but when tested these people did have Covid-19, so the hospital (to probably get extra funding) included them in the "Covid" class of hospitalized.
This strain of Covid-19, variety called Omicron, seems to be the least problematic as far as health - some liken this to a bad cold. It does appear to be very contagious, but not as deadly as tht of the early strains.

Life goes on. Usual viruses mutate to become weaker. How come? If they are weaker they can live in more hosts. If they are too strong, and cause too many death, the virus cannot spread. Hence, the mutation to become somewhat weaker. We will build up immunity to this in time and someday, will talk and look back at this time, ... in a more normalized living.

percocet caused me to be hallucinating , to loose time. To " wake up" finding myself outside wandering around.
So for some people it has weird effects! I can't take it. While morphine does nothing , doesn't help with pain. But there are lots of stuff available and they have pain care management doctors that should be able to help.
I don't like hearing " man up" as severe pain delays healing and has effects. I know they have studies on this in animals, I'm sure people too.

I keep praying your brother keeps improving!

I talked to him earlier and they are going to try different meds, something that won't effect the brain as much. Not sure if he is still quarantined coz of covid he doesn't know and wants me to visit. I want to but am concerned. This sucks and more stress.
Thanks to all for your well wishes and prayers it means a lot to both of us.

. They put him on 2mg Dilaudid. Says he's only taking it when the pain gets out of hand
Some years ago that is what they gave me when i was in the hospital for a gall bladder surgery. Long story, things did not go as normal. So I spent a few days in there. Made me go to sleep. ..every time.
I use to take a muscle relaxant called Tramdol It would get rid of the muscle pain after scooping or snow blowing, but would also wake me up at night and then I'd get hungry. Now, in 2019 I found Marijuana that took care of the pain, let me sleep, and I didn't end up groggy in the morning, like with Tramdol. A side benefit to Cannabis is that it can be used to calm nausea. Michigan is one of those states it is legal in, so we grow it and consume just a wee bit in edible form at night before going to bed. Gives a great nights sleep.
