Re: Wuhan virus
The crappy thing is, many American schools aren't taking it seriously. Nearby, a bunch of kids were exposed at a dance, and the school is set to be closed for 1 day (even though the dance wasn't at the school). Now...how does that make sense? A bunch of kids at the school were exposed, but even one day later, you have up to 13+ days where you can be without symptoms/spreading the illness. They should close for the full incubation period if the threat is legitimate (and it is---given the scenario).
They also are sending home letters that are like, "keep your kid home if he gets a fever over 100 or a severe, dry cough" but 90% of kids aren't going to develop those symptoms, even when infected...From what I understand, it looks more like a cold in young people. People are still showing up to work sick and children with colds and coughs aren't being sent home without fevers. The point is, kids don't always show symptoms.
Doesn't change the fact that they are vectors for community transmission and the whole 14-day window is hugely important here...I feel like people just aren't taking it seriously when it comes to containing the problem early- on. Yes, it may seem extreme to shut a school for 2 weeks, BUT it is less extreme than having a community of secretly infected running around and spurring a pandemic.
